Coys Blenheim Palace sale results

A Ferrari Daytona record, another mega bucks Porsche RS and a few lovely Jags

Another auction, another suggestion this classic car bubble won't burst anytime soon. Coys has released results from its Blenheim Palace sale which saw a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 sell for £765,540. That's a UK record for Daytonas. Why? It's one of the first right-hand drive cars delivered to Britain and is described as a "museum quality example". Could it be that the soaring values of mid-engined 12-cylinder Ferraris are dragging up the front-engined cars yet further?

£427,000...
£427,000...
On a Ferrari note, the auction saw a 458 Speciale with 2,000 miles sell for £225,800, a pair of Testarossas make £69,000 and £74,600 plus a 612 Scaglietti with a winning bid of £55,560. Is the latter now the most affordable way into a 12-cylinder Ferrari?

It wouldn't be a classic car auction without some silly money being thrown at an air-cooled Porsche, as proven by the £427,400 paid for a 2.7 RS Touring. A Swedish car optioned with the limited-slip diff, Recaro seats and long range fuel tank, it's clearly a very special 911. Amazingly that sale price is at the lower end of its £425-£500,000 estimate...

£222,000. Huh?
£222,000. Huh?
Want some reference on that? That money would also have bought the Jaguar E-Type Semi-Lightweight, XK120 and XK140 also sold by Coys. Madness.

Interesting results elsewhere include a very late original Mini (2000MY) with 183 miles selling for £16,520, an Alfa Romeo SZ at £30,680 (they're creeping up) and Rod Stewart's old Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster, which made £178,760. It was subsequently owned by "iconic mystic former British wrestler Kendo Nagasaki". If the cars could talk...

Coys next auction is at the Nurburgring on August 8 as part of Oldtimer GP weekend. PH preview to follow soon!

Willing to be bold and say I think that SZ a little cheap. No?
