I'm possibly going to view a 2003/2004 s60 D5 auto this weekend. I've seen though that not a lot of people like the auto?
I am just battering up and down the motorway and sat in M5/6/25 stationary traffic and with my slightly knackered knees I want an auto. Is the auto really that bad?
Cheers!

I wouldnt take an auto Volvo at any point, but that's just from the horror stories I've read. Thing is, I dont mind if someone actually said 'it clunks, I've tried fixing it) but what a lot of sellers have done is found a problem, changed the fluid, that hasnt fixed it so they sell it. Because the fluids fairly fresh it masks the problem, which comes back to bite the new owner on the arse after a year, maybe less.
If you're going to buy an auto Volvo get one from an enthusiast who'll be able to tell you exactly what the history of it is
Any alternatives? Needs to be auto and decent sized for carrying IT equipment If you're going to buy an auto Volvo get one from an enthusiast who'll be able to tell you exactly what the history of it is

That rules out the big engined 9-5 of that age too I guess. That said, the OP could get a 150hp 1.9 TiD FPT engine in a 9-5 with a lot of spec.
I aren't sure about a 4 cylinder diesel automatic? Also the 1.9's are known to cause issues aren't they?I'm bored of being at the petrol station every other day or so to fill up, hence my diesel requirement as currently given my current job diary for this month, I'll be doing 1600 business miles and as it stands that will be in my M5. I've already done 560 miles this week in it.

I've found an s80 with 107k, se lux apparently with nav, front and rear pdc etc for £1800. Seems a bit cheap? On a 55 plate too.
Not really, not as desirable as the S60s of the same age to most people, so values lower. So the S80 is still available. I've been told if I want it I can have it but I cannot view it for two weeks. He is prepared to take it off the market for me if I say I want it on the proviso I do indeed buy it.
I tend not to buy cars unseen though the chap does sound very honest and I am sure the car will be as described. Aside from the gearbox, and buying a pup (audi 1.8t anyone? ) what are the chances of anything borktastic being wrong with it? I aren't going to get Chance to look at it or anything else for two weeks anyway now and there is a chance it will sell in the meantime.
Too risky?

Ah, assumed that it was the AT one, which reads that way.
No, this is elsewhere. Its cheap enough for me to take a punt on I think. Its an older Chap who owns it who has just bought a jag for retirement. He was quick to point out its marks it has had over its life time. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
