Why no police 335d?

Just been pondering this.
Police round here (Northumberland) use a lot of bmw 330ds but never 335

Is is 330 more reliable or jst that bmw more willing to negotiate bulk discounts on 330? Or maybe police feel 330 is quick enough?

I remember reading a review of the escort cosworth. Apparently a patrol car stopped for a look. Passer by wryly noted that the escort looked a bit too quick for them. Officer muttered something about nothing outrunning the radio....
