Is Porsche Planning a GT2 RS?

A lighter 580bhp version of the GT2 could be on the cards...

Can the GT2 really go quicker?

Porsche could be working on ultra-hardcore GT2 RS designed specifically for track days, PistonHeads has learnt.

Despite the fact the 530bhp GT2 is already blisteringly quick a source close to the German carmaker revealed that a faster, lighter and more powerful version is on the cards.

The latest GT2 has managed to shake off the ‘widow maker’ status of old but some owners have found it more suited to the road than the track. An RS version would solve that and could be the quickest road-going Porsche around a track ever, bar perhaps the GT1.

If it goes ahead the new car is rumoured to feature a Perspex rear window and centre-locking wheels. There would also be other substantial weight-saving measures to contribute to an incredible 200kg reduction.

Power is expected to be increased by 50bhp to 580bhp and it is thought that just ten RHD examples will be built. If it does make it to production expect the GT2 to make an appearance next Spring.

Never really loved the GT2 not a big fan of turbo charged Porsche's but an RS version of this would be something to behold. Any bets on how long it takes for someone (probably Porsche) to start going on about 'ring records?

This should be awesome, more power and even lighter. Also dont forget that the old GT2 porsche was faster than the GTR around the ring in the wet in the DR test.

It would be great if you could order all cars in a lightweight version, i dont need electrical adjustable seats and electric windows etc. Even the BMW CSL has to have electric windows.
Not sure if it is true of the CSL but on an Elise the electric window mechanism actually weighs less than the winders.
