Golf R and Scirocco R Prices Revealed

VW confirms specs and pricing for its fastest ever production car

A fine looking pair!
A fine looking pair!
Prices for the eagerly anticipated Golf and Scirocco R models will start at £28,930 and £26,945 respectively, Volkswagen has announced. First deliveries are expected to arrive in the UK in February.

Fitted with a 2.0-litre TSI four-cylinder engine and a six speed manual gearbox as standard, the Scirocco R develops 265hp and 258lb ft of torque while the Golf R produces 270hp and 258lb ft. A six-speed DSG gearbox is available as an option on both models from £1,300.

According to VW, the Golf R is the fastest accelerating car it has ever produced, with 0-62mph taking just 5.5secs - with the DSG gearbox. The Scirocco R channels power though the front wheels only, and is fitted with VW's XDS electronic cross-axle traction control system. The Golf R, available with three or five doors, gets the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.

To set the 'R' models apart from a conventional Scirocco or Golf, both feature new front bumpers complete with LED running lights and a deep airdam. Xenon lights, gloss black grille elements, gloss black wing mirrors, sill extensions and 18-inch five-spoke 'Talladega' alloy wheels housing gloss black 'R' callipers give the new models a purposeful look, the company says. Optional 19-inch alloy wheels in the same design are also available and, on the Golf R, these can be also be specified with a gloss black finish.

At the back, both models feature roof mounted spoilers and are fitted with twin exit exhausts; the Golf R's positioned in the centre of a gloss black diffuser and the Scirocco R's mounted on either side. Smoked rear light units, which on the Golf house LED bulbs, further differentiate the R models.

Styling changes continue inside the cabins of both new models with new sports seats complete with 'R' logos, piano black and silver highlights, a new three-spoke black leather sports steering wheel with contrasting stitching and revised white backlit dials with electric blue needles unique to the 'R' range. Leather sports seats are available on both models and Recaro bucket seats can also be specified as an option on both the three- and five-door Golf R models.

Scirocco again looks better value for money. Same story with Golf GTD/ GTI vs Scirocco GT. I wonder why...

I don't understand the marketing of these cars... Aren't both cars in direct competition with one another?

Also can anybody tell me is that "4 motion" a real AWD system or that ~80:20 split like on Volvos and the S3?

I don't see whats funny? They are priced reasonably relative to competitors. You have to remember the pound is quite weak against the euro, and VW are actually offering these in the UK cheaper than they would sell them for in Germany.

Had got a preorder on the Roc R, But starting at 26k + DSG and Leather your already at 30k. For a FWD Hatch. If it was AWD id be a little more swayed, but FWD, no thanks.

The Golf starting at over 30k aswell, leather not standard. I mean come on VW!!

I love my R32 and seeing things like this makes me want to keep it that little longer.

Hang on - £30k for the Golf and £26k for the Scirocco?

I'd've thought it would be the other way around.....

They did the same with the Golf GTD/ GTI been more expensive than the better equipped Scirocco GT with the same engines.

Still seems steep - I always thought that coupes worked out more expensive than the hatch alternative. At least that's how things used to be....

Can someone spec a Golf with DSG, leather, 19s and Nav and come back and give us the good news?

Oh, and mats, mudguards and winter pack wink

When you say weak you mean relative to how it has been.

I actually think it used to be overvalued and at the moment is more realistic.

After all if this country doesn't have enough to offer the value of the currency will drop with demand.

Probably, back when a coupe was built almost from the ground up for a limited market... the Scirroco is probably just a new suit on the Golf and is the obvious choice for the majority market, the young, stay-at-home, give me credit, spendaholics. It is damn tasty compared the Golf though. Was considering an Ed 30, but I might wait a bit.

I dont suppose they have any problems in selling the golf at high prices, they sell themselves. I suppose people need a bit more tempting to buy a scirocco due to the love/hate looks and unpracticallity.

The article is wrong. The Golf starts at £28,930.

So the Golf R is basically engine and transmission wise the same as an Audi S3?

Fair enough if it was a bit cheaper, but its basically the same price. Really cant see many people taking the golf over the S3, the audi interior is far nicer and its got an audi badge.

OK I've just been on the VW configurator. I've added sensible options (not taken the piss).

So, 5 door DSG with:

19s £515
Recaros - £3325 yikes
ASC (Adaptive chassis control) £730
Metallic paint - £410
Nav - £2225 yikes
Winter Pack - £330
Sunroof - £570
Phone prep - £380

Basic price £30,820
Options £8,495

Grand eyewatering total: £39315

Ladies and gentlemen. The 40k Golf has arrived.

That's what i was thinking! The Scirocco should have the full 4WD DSG combo as the Golf. It looks much better than the golf IMHO.

In Black with the 19" Black alloys please Mr VW thanks very much biggrin

And they use the £ in France hence why the Megane Cup is so cheap ....
