700hp Caddy Dials 'SOS' After 11sec 1/4 Mile

Video: Hennessey tuned CTS-V sprint activates OnStar emergency system

Pulling 0.99g on a drag strip after putting in a quarter-mile run in just 11 seconds triggered this Caddy's onboard 'OnStar' safety system to call for help!

As you'd expect, this is no ordinary Caddy - the CTS-V in question has a 700bhp tuning package from Hennessy Performance, and is described by Hennessy as a 'four-door ZR1'.

But still being a CTS at heart, it retains the 'OnStar' assistance package fitted to higher-end GM cars. Amongst its other features, OnStar is designed to automatically call for assistance when it detects a crash has taken place.

As this video shows, the forces caused by the modified Caddy's extreme acceleration triggered such a call, with amusing results. You can watch the run in the video below, and bear in mind as you watch that this isn't even the fastest CTS that Hennessy makes.

That is perhaps the coolest thing I've ever seen, I want my car to call an emergency when I accelerate frown. Ace!

I can sympathise. My Alfa GTV recently detected a "crash-situation" when I braked very hard going in to a roundabout. I have upgraded the brakes from standard (they needed it!) and with fresh tyres on good quality tarmac there is serious stopping power. The Airbag circuit detected a "crash-situation" but fortunately not enough to trigger the bags to inflate.

Hennessey took one of their twin turbo Ford GT's to Corpus Christi last week. If broke its own drive shafts when they spun the wheels, before it even reached the track...

This OnStar activation sounds typical of Hennessay - badly thought-through mods.

Thats mental acceleration, the system should be used on the chav-mobiles, so once they start acting a dick, the cops are called and maybe an ambulance too.

The OnStar comes standard on the CTS-V from Cadillac .. Hennessey has nothing to do with it.

I think the point he's trying to make is that they should have ripped it out.

There are a lot more features to OnStar than just calling 911 incase of a crash.

I would rather deal with this nuisance than not have it when I really need it.

Exactly. Hennessey have a reputation of making things wildly powerful which then break or something goes wrong...

Wildly powerful things have a tendency to do that.
anyways .. this particular incident is just funny. oh well, with great powers comes .. a overly sensitive OnStar system.
