Lotus has delivered an Evora to a London showroom this afternoon. The white Evora arrived at the Park Lane dealership today and it will be on display until the first weekend of January. It is the first verification prototype car and has been built on the production line.

The Evora is the Hethel company's new 2+2 powered by a 3.5-litre V6 producing 280bhp. It is the first all-new Lotus since the Elise in 1995 and is expected to top 170mph. The company's engineers took it from a clean sheet to a finished design in 21 months.

Deposits are being taken now for the Evora and deliveries are scheduled to start in Spring.

As much as I dont want to be negative, I really dont see the point on this car.

It looks like a cracking car but the timing for launching any new car is terrible!

Good luck and i genuinely hope it succeeds.

Looks and sounds brilliant - it's a practical Elise.

If I had the money to run something like a 911 as an everyday car, I would definitley consider it.

Love it.

Have to say I think this car is a dog, and why is it a 2+2? I hope its a success becaue I support all sports car marques (especially at the moment).

Love the two eleven, exige and elise. But this is just wrong???

Also, clean sheet design rolled out in 21 months? That's pretty astonishing.

The Lexus IS-F has been doing Nurburgring testing for about three years now.

Good luck chaps!

I'm surprised to see the negative comments from Elise owners.

Certainly no worse than a Cayman but timing is very poor.

I think that there is a big market for a slightly more practical and larger Elise that is still fun to drive and for someone that just doesn't want a Porsche.

I'm just not sold yet on the styling.

I also think that they should have upped the power a bit to really give it a head start in the power to weight stakes over the competition.

I might pop down and take a look.

Does anyone know if you can see it from the main window - ie even when the dealership is closed tonight?

Why is the timing poor? Nothing else boosts sales like a new model!

You don't have to use the rear seats. I doubt many 911s or GT-Rs regularly carry 4 people.

That's not a flattering angle, is it?

Where will the number plate be mounted? Another ugly afterthrought like the V8V?

Lots of people have been made redundant and many of those still luckly to have a job are worried about the future. If you are not sure if you will have an income in 6 months time would you spend 50K on a depreciating asset?

Absolutely. Someone like me who has 2 kids. My kids are hardly EVER in my car (we have a family truck for that), but it's nice to know that I have the ability to fit them in if I need to.

That, dear pillocks, is the "point" of this car. rolleyes

I actually think it looks dog-ugly and would never consider one, but I wish Lotus nothing but success. The more cars that are out there bringing just that bit more fun to the roads, the better.

My comment above isn't meant to be negative, I just meant its a poor picture. I would like to see the car in the flesh before I decide what I think of it. I hope I love it.

Lotus have been hit hardest, as they depend on the average joe's disposable income....

supercars for the super-rich are still doing OK I think.

I like the look of this, I'd be interested if I wanted to spend the cash, weekend car with room for the little-un.
