Ferrari Theme Park Nears Completion

Petrolhead 'Disneyland' gears up for 2010 opening

Ferrari has nearly completed work on its very own theme park, located in Abu Dhabi. 'Ferrari World' is situated on Yas Island, just north-east of the mainland, right by the Yas Marina Circuit that was thoroughly enjoyed by Sebastian Vettel in yesterday's inaugural Abu Dhabi grand prix.

The vast complex, designed by architects Benoy, covers 200,000 m2 and is 45 metres high, making it the world's largest indoor theme park. The building may look like a bright red ninja star, but apparently the architects designed it to emulate the 'classic double-curve side profile of the Ferrari GT body', and in the centre sits the largest Ferrari 'prancing horse' ever created.

Ferrari describes it as an 'intense multi-sensory experience', with around 20 assorted attractions and rides. They include a 124mph roller coaster that is supposed to simulate the G-forces of F1, but we particularly like the sound of the 'flume ride journey through the heart of a Ferrari 599 engine'.

As you'd expect, a feast of restaurants and merchandise shops completes the package, and the video below shows footage of the main flagship Ferrari store inside the theme park being opened by Kimi Raikkonen and Giancarlo Fisichella.

Ferrari World itself opens to visitors in 2010. For more information see the Ferrari World website.

A prize to the first person who can accurately describe the sound of Ferrari finally disappearing up their own egotistical backside!

I heard that Ferrari wanted nothing to do with the project at first.

I hate Ferrari. The tackiness and tastelessness of the rich Arab states suits their current status perfectly.

I love how Raikonen couldn't be less interested, i was at the opening of the Regent St store and he was just as excited about that too.

Ferrari have got their head stuck so far up their own arse, it tarnishes the Ferrari dream a bit to me.

Have you not seen him after he's won a race? (ok, maybe not recently), but he's just as vocal then. He must be a bugger at Christmas if you buy him a present.

Haha I was thinking the same!

When they're finished with that place maybe the workers could also finish the 2012 site.

no mention of just how much they spent on that monstrosity, it almost makes me glad i don't have enough money to be a ferrari owner now (i say 'almost' cos they just make too many great cars)

Good enough! biggrin

Your prize is a no-expenses-paid trip to Maranello to explain (in excruciating detail, with graphics showing the above event!) to them exactly what most petrolheads feel about this. wink

For anyone considering buying a ferrari, like the F458, reading this news in various sites makes you shudder.

They want you to buy the F458 for say GBP 160k without personal options/special order and wait 2 years ..... roughly

But then you see this tasteless tripe and you wonder ......

Never Never Land sunk chimps as pets basically
