Gumpert Tornante Launched In Geneva

German supercar maker's second model gets Italian body and 'fast tourer' tag

This is the Gumpert Tornante, the German supercar manufacturer's second-ever model.

Developed in conjunction with Italian coachbuilder Touring Superleggera (a partnership that started just a year ago at the 2010 Geneva show), the new Tornante, say its creators, is a pioneer of a whole new niche - the 'fast tourer'.

Basically, this is a GT, only faster. The Tornante shares its basic innards with the more hardcore Apollo, but has been softened off.

The chassis is still an unusual mix of metal spaceframe and carbon fibre monocoque, but engineered for more space and comfort. Likewise the suspension is still a double wishbone set-up all round, but has been tuned for comfort rather than outright agility and grip. Oh, and the engine has been down-tuned to 'just' 690bhp and 664lb ft of torque.

Gumpert plans to start selling the Tornante in 2012, and hopes to find owners for 30-50 cars per year.

I like it. Much better looking than the Apollo IMO. Performance figures look nice too :-) Wonder how much more power you could get out of the motor with a bit of fettling?

That's quite nice, the rear end looks a bit like a squared off veyron...

I love that. Reminds me a bit of the concept Jag. though theoretical, i could never own an Apollo as it's sinfully ugly but this is really rather pretty.

Quite like it, but it is the usual mish mash of everything else on the road.

I like the front end, and those figures even more. But not quite sure what's going on at the rear...

I like it. Looks like it could have come out of I Robot or Minority Report to me. Nice and futuristic in the simplicity of its surfacing.

I'm going to go out there and say this but, whilst the past Apollo wasn't exactly pretty, I think it was nicer than this which looks like it is TRYING to be pretty but is in fact almost completely horrible...

The previous Apollo is the lesser of two evils...

Shame this is just a big model and not an actual car.

I was expecting better than this. I suspect there will be substantial changes to the air inlets to cool and feed that twin turbo V8 .

I dont imagine Roland will sell that many

looks quite bland IMO. I preferred the more outlandish Apollo, at least it stood out from the crowd

I thought that too, I like it but the main reason I prefer the Apollo was because it was so ugly it was beautiful (if that makes sense wobble ).

Indeed it does, and if i was lucky enough to have the finances for such a purchase, an Apollo would be my choice, as i have never seen one on the road yet

Thats a good point I've seen many exotica on the road and car shows and yet to have seen an apollo, How many have been produced?, wiki doesn't seem to say.
