Jenson Button - F1 World Champion

Britain celebrates world titles for Button and Brawn

Jenson Button - World Champion
Jenson Button - World Champion
Fifth place at the Brazilian Grand Prix was enough to cement the world title for Jenson Button yesterday, 21 years after he first took to the race track in a kart.

An understandably emotional Button said the race was 'the best of my life', as key rivals Sebastian Vettel finished fourth from 15th on the grid and Rubens Barrichello's chances were ended by a puncture.

"This was the best race I've driven in my life," Button told Autosport after the race. "I know because of the emotion that's involved in it, but also because I knew what I had to do - I did it, and that is why I am sat up here as world champion. I am going to enjoy this moment very much. The people around me have been so supportive. I might have come across like I don't care about this in the past, but that was just me keeping a face. It shows a weakness if you show it is hurting or stressful, but I can say it now, it was very a tough few months and I needed the people around me, especially the team to fight for this. Today I didn't win the race but I did best I could with the car and it felt like a win to me. I am the world champion - I am not going to stop saying it!"

Well done Jenson, we always knew you had it in you!

Ross Brawn celebrates for the team
Ross Brawn celebrates for the team
The new Brawn GP team set up by Ross Brawn after Honda sold out is also celebrating, having clinched its first Constructor's Title in its first year of competition.

Well done to Button, his strategy has been fantastic, and he has been making sure his car finishes the races.

Even more well done to Brawn, 2 titles in their first season!

It was a great drive from Jenson, especially if the car wasn't on form smile

Will be great if Rubens can get 2nd in the WDC at the last race, to make it a perfect season for Brawn.

It's a wonderful story, in a all-so-British way.

Team left in the lurch and strapped for cash with no sponsorship. Goes out and gives it everything and brings it home.

rofl Great post.

Brilliant job by Button (great drive) and Ross Brawn.

Brawn showed what a great leader he is by going round and thanking all the team stright after the race - and then thanking even those he had to lay off previously.

I'm sorry Rubens didn't get the home win he so wanted.. but it saves me having to watch the last race from behind the sofa!!

I'm soooo pleased for Button, Brawn and all the team members. And I love how gracious Brawn was, when interviewed first thing he said was about the workers who had to be laid off.

Fantastic race yesterday and congratulations to Brawn and Jenson. Brilliant result and such an achievement for a team born only a year ago. That race yesterday really proved what Jenson really has. Think it'll be staying on Sky+ for a while.

that would be rather ungrateful given the free team they gave along with a nice big chunk of cash!

(i know it's a joke - and a good one!) but it should be forgotten how, to be fair to them, typically japanese honda have been over the whole situation. they did the best they could given the circumstances..!
