Lexus GS F Sport Looks Faster, Isn't

Although there could be a V10 powered super-version on the way...

Lexus will reveal this new GS F Sport model at the SEMA show in Las Vegas on 1 November.

Available in the UK and across Europe next year, the F Sport features a new front bumper design with larger side grilles and a new mesh design for the upper and lower grilles. The F Sport package also includes a rear spoiler and dark metallic finish 19-inch alloy wheels.

The interior has also been tarted up with 16-way adjustable F Sport front seats, a black headliner and pillar finish, dimple perforated leather steering wheel and gear knob covers and aluminium pedals.

Suspension has been retuned to optimise AVS damping control, and the use of low viscosity oil improves their efficiency by reducing friction. In addition the rear shock absorbers have been inclined further to the rear, and the lower bushings have been made larger and stiffer. It's all said to maximise the AVS's control of body roll and, hence, improve response to steering inputs for a more engaging drive.

Sadly there's no extra power - the GS F Sport sticking with the standard model's 300-odd hp petrol-electric powertrain. However Autocar maintains that Lexus is considering sticking a detuned version of the LF-A's V10 under the bonnet. We'll believe that when we see it, what with rising sea levels and all...

I don't usually come out with the 'looks like a cross between...' posts but that is blatant Audi front Beemer rear isn't it. Looks well on it mind.

A CT-F might actually be rather interesting to see.

I like it, looks really great, lovely interior too, but need to see it in the flesh. Would I have it over an E- Class or 5 Series. Very possibly.

If 'F' was supposed to be BMW's M/Merc's AMG/Audi's 'S' equivalent the this is a huge fail.

Lexus, get over the hybrid rubbish already! Not everyone is a gullible american celebrity.

Have you driven one?

Putting aside the environmental stuff, hybrid power makes a big difference to the driving experience.

But don't let that get in the way of your badge snobbery wink

The quality of the new GS is superb.

Lexus has never marketed the GS / LS hybrids on their environmental credentials alone, on these models its just as much about performance enhancing as it is about lowering emissions.

The CO2 emissions on the new hybrid model will cause a raised eyebrow - especially when its performance is taken into account

Will there be a GS estate? Something I always thought was lacking from their range. I like the idea of the GS hybrid rather than a diesel too.

Quite a good looking car, definitely better than any of the Germans. Shame they don't do a particularly powerful version but if they did would anyone actually buy it?

It's no more or less bland than a BMW 5 series/A6/E-Class etc.

Anyway, "bland" (when it comes to looks) is not a bad thing. Some people like to get on with things without shouting about it.

Globally i think it'd do well, maybe not so much in the U.K. where many have a dislike for Lexus, no idea why, it can't still be the Alan Partridge thing. The IS-F remains a rare sight on our roads, which i think is a shame.
