Performance Pack Boosts AMG C Class

Engine mods lift power closer to the magic 500hp

With PPP, the C63 gets more lippy!

A new performance upgrade has been released for the Merc C63 AMG that bumps output up to a heady 487 hp.

The Performance Package Plus features engine mods including forged alloy pistons, new rods and a lighter crankshaft which, with the help of a remapped ECU, conspires to bring the 0-62mph sprint down to 4.4secs.

Brakes have been upgraded too, with composite rotors on the front axle, and the package includes a carbon lip spoiler on the boot - for saloon versions, obviously, although the package will also be available for the estate.

UK prices have not been announced yet, but in Europe you'll need to find around €7,000 for the upgrade.

Perhaps because they only got the parts when the SLS was at a certain stage of development? It makes you wonder how much a chipped one will go to considering Brabus, Kleemann etc get about 530-540nhp out of the standard one? Approaching 600bhp in a C class? That would be pretty strong in gear you'd have to imagine.

The sound they make is amazing! My Director had one earlier in the year which he's since swapped I think due to a small arrival of a baby. However, It looked amazing!

Not sure what is going on with this report.

Mercedes currently get the same engine to produce 525bhp in the E63AMG, largely with just engine management upgrades, so I am unsure where all this engine work is coming from.

Who is offering this "upgrade"? It doesn't state this in the report, but it ain't Mercedes-Benz that's for sure.

Great car but I'd still take the M3 thanks.

Give me a manual box any day.

doesnt the (now old shape) E63AMG have forged piston as standard build though?

therefore they are effectively offering the upgraded "E63" engine into the C Class as the currently are not running a new shape E-class AMG.. ?

Good pricing though, E7,000 aint too bad.!

Lets hope they make it standard for the UK model. No one is likely to pay that much when a simple chip change will give you 500bhp anyway. Another thing - why don't they fit the E class gearbox to the C class? It would increase mpg by 10%.

Both E class and C class 63s have the same gearbox 7G-Tronic.C63 has the added
bonus of double-declutching function for smooth downshifts.

The E class runs a more effcicent wet clucth rather than a torque converter

I thought the idea of having one of these over something like an SL63 was the extra practicality ?

I love it. Wibble.

The only downside as far as I can glean, is still the uncertain mechanical build quality of MB, if you wanted to keep it long term.

Personally, I'd probably forgo a fancy dashboard and get something simple and rugged. Perhaps a Monaro/VXR/Mustang/Camaro.
