Pic Of The Week: Rothmans Escort

Back in time to when Cibies and bubble arches ruled the forests

This week's picture comes courtesy of PHer 'eein' who took this photo at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed.

We think it really captures the speed and drama of these old rally cars as they scrabble for grip through the forest, sliding sideways inches from the trees.

If you've taken any great pictures which you think would make for a worthy Pic of the Week then please email them to us and you too could be featured on the front page of PistonHeads.

couldn't beat the airborne rally cars of one of the previous PotW imo. It's a little to blurry too I guess... not bad for what is (i think) an amateur pic?

Yeh good photo of a great car and a great era of rallying. Got a load of photo's of this team myself driven by Ari Vatenen deep in the welsh forests.

makes me wish I had been better able to persuade my parents to take me to Kielder late on a school night back in the early '80s to stand in the dark watching cars like this in the old RAC rally.

Is it just me or is it out of focus slightly

There again, when I was out in the forests watching these in action I had probably been to the pub first, a particularly amusing night in Bellingham comes to mind.........

Panning shot, so the background is blurred. If it's taken where I think it was taken, the light was crap, so I'm guessing a really wide aperture, so a very narrow focus. The nose is in focus, the back isn't.

I quite like the effect.

I have some great old rally photos but I just can't attach them to this site, I have tried on several occasions but it's useless

On the subject of useless, I use an apple computer and I do notice that when I use my mates PC to view the PH web site it is a lot different
than what the apple displays ?

This was when rallying was rallying, the Mark 2's then the Group B's awesome days, bit better than the numb/sanitised scooby bloody doo's sleep

THANK YOU Pistonheads. You will have to excel yourselves to provide a picture to replace that as the old desktop background. I remember selling a Mk2 for £100 about ten years ago. Biggest mistake ever.....

Aaah takes me back to the seventies when I was a young lad representing Carreras Rothmans ciggies, and had a nice company Cortina all decked out in similar livery.
Never had so many friends....but that could have been the 1000 free cigs a week allowance. hehe

Aahh the proper days of rallying when you had 20+ stages for a national event 100+ miles and more, real men, real cars.
A cynical 50+year old and former seventies rally driver !!!
