R8 Spyder Makes UK Debut At Flagship Dealer

Audi UK's £45 million flagship centre is launched with the help of the new R8 Spyder

Audi will tonight open the doors to a new £45 million flagship London dealership in a 'recession, what recession?' move of spectacular proportions. The new dealership will also be the site of the new Audi R8 Spyder's UK debut.

The £110k 518bhp V10 Audi soft top will be unveiled at a star-studded launch party in front of 300 guests.

West London Audi, a 190,000sq ft structure has been designed by Gateshead Millennium Bridge architects Wilkinson Eyre and sits next to the elevated section of the M4 in West London.

The new site has a 116-car showroom and a 32-bay workshop, and expects to deal with around 30,000 customers in its first 12 months. It officially opens to the public on Monday 19 October.

yikes £45,000,000 for a garage?

It's their money but that is a huge amount of money to blow on a shiny car selling palace.

Im am sure the R8 is a fantastic car to own and drive, and it does sound lovely when one rattles past but, I was on my way to get some lunch last week and saw one following another Audi (A5).

The R8 just didn't stand out from the 'normal' car enough for my liking - leaves me a little cold.

As for the Spyder, seems like its trying to keep up with the cars that it would like to be in direct competition with, but not really quite making the grade again.

Anyway, as you were.

Think you'll probably find that we (the consumer) will end up paying for it through expensive serving etc !!

Ive been going past this building quite regularly and it does look good, and its not all for sale cars, as I spied on the top 'shelf' a couple of old racing liveried Quattro's and alike.

The third pic, with the red Audis, did actually to send me to sleep.

Struth. £45 million to sell dull-dishwater cars.

yes

Red audi's pic says it all imho.

A3: if you want a dull "premium" hatchback that is "reliable", buy a Golf
A4: could never see the point, get yourself RWD (3 series), or if you want something good looking, go for the 159. Drives a lot better too
A5: very nice looking car, front is just too audi, but I can understand this one
A6: *zzzz*
R8: not my cup of tea, main problem for me is that it looks to bland for such a car in it's class.

Can go on with the entire range, but to me it just boils down to this:
They make good looking cars but they look all exactly the same, and they charge a way too high premium for just a "name".

When alfa gets mentioned everyone comes out and slates it as a terrible drive unreliable breaks down every five minutes etc etc.

Have to agree with you there.

Many on here just spout the usual Clarksonisms - it has to be true as they heard it on Top Gear rolleyes

Best post I've read in ages. The endless tedium of winging about cars that haven't even been driven by aforementioned winger is getting to very stale...

I agree with comments that every time an Audi is mentioned everyone gets all opinionated about them. I appreciate that people are entitled to their opinion, but I don't understand anyone saying the R8 is a dull car! Anyway, West London Audi..... Surely the £45m is worth every penny? Its a permanent structure passed by millions of people a week, and a real statement of the strength, confidence and success of the brand. If other premium marques could afford it, or had the balls to do it, then they would. I for one can't wait to visit this place, and i've heard there will be meeting rooms, a heritage collection, and some other surprise content. So much more than just another Centre.
