Special XKR Unleashed By Jaguar

Unique factory XKR to get more power and lime-green paint; one lucky PHer can win a ride!

PistonHead’s exclusive offer of a thrilling passenger ride up the Goodwood FoS hillclimb course in a special XKR driven by Mike Cross is proving to be our most popular freebie yet – and you’ve still got a few days left to enter!

Imagine this in Lime Green...
Imagine this in Lime Green...
In case you need reminding, Mike Cross is the Jaguar chief engineer in charge of ride and handling. He’s also renowned as a bit of a hand behind the wheel, especially when it comes to demonstrating the power-oversteer-on-demand qualities of the most sporting Jaguar chassis propelled by 5.0 litres of unadulterated V8 muscle.

We've also just been tipped off by Jaguar that the XKR Mike will be demonstrating at Goodwood will be a unique new take on the existing model, not least thanks to a very 'un-Jaguar' vivid lime-green paint job!

'The car is called the Goodwood Special XKR, and has been designed to explore the harder side of the XKR's character, and explore some of the performance boundaries,' says Mike.

PH winner should get a taste of this!
PH winner should get a taste of this!
All we know so far is that the car has an unspecified power upgrade over the standard 5.0-litre supercharged V8's 503bhp, a louder exhaust (hooray!) and some 'satin-graphite' detailing on its front grille, headlamp surrounds, door mirrors, side-window surrounds and bonnet louvres. (We know Jaguar is considering optional alternatives to the brightwork on the front of its cars, so presumably they'll be looking for feedback to the grille treatment on the Goodwood Special.)

Either way, there are no pictures yet as the car is still being finished - so you'll have to use your imaginations until the car is wheeled out at the FoS.

Meanwhile, for a video taster of what’s in store for the winner of our email draw, and some insights into Mike’s thoughts on Jaguar chassis dynamics click here.

And for your chance to win this once-in-a-lifetime offer of a passenger ride in the unique Jaguar Goodwood Special XKR, simply email competitions@pistonheads.com with your name and phone number - making sure the subject line of your email reads Jaguar.

Our lucky winner will be drawn and notified next Monday June 29th.

The prize itself, generously donated by Jaguar, is for a great day out at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on Saturday July 4th. (This is the only available date.)

The prize includes:

1)     XKR passenger ride on the Goodwood FoS hillclimb for one person with Mike Cross

2)     Full Jaguar VIP hospitality – including refreshments - for two people (the winner and their guest/partner)

3)     All necessary entry tickets/passes and car-parking for two people

Glad that they are doing it in a colour. It is about time that new cars are in colours rather than silver or a shade of tarmac.

Jaguars 'evolve'. Once the new car is launched i.e. the new 5.0ltr XK's/XF's, Jaguar is already working on the next project....... shame the recession is here Jaguar have got one hell of a line up, soon to be joined by the all new XJ. The Achilles heel of the new 5.0ltr engined cars is I'm informed the gearbox, so I'm sure once Jag have developed a new 'box to harness the new increased power of the on-going new Jaguars, I'm sure you'll see way more power. Interesting on the other news item that it looks like BMW are ditching the V8's at some point in future, save for emmisions and economy. I'm sure Jag will have to follow suit at some point, with newer more eco high power units.....

I for one find a 5.0 litre supercharged v8 in a svelte coupe most dull. The XF is also noted for dullness, especially inside where the lack of imagination is obvious.

Much better to have a square german car, black with a black on black interior, preferably with a square central console and a square bottomed wheel.

There no flair to the design of these Jaguars. What kind of statement do they make about you? It is important to fit in with the crowd at watford gap services if you're be taken seriously at regional sales meetings. That's not to mention what the yummy mummies of Romford would think as you come to pick up little Rio and Jade after school in car without the chromed stylings of a proper S-line styling kit.

Plus they are still rear wheel drive, I mean who wants that?

What a curious rant. My opinion of Jaguars is they're pig ugly, overweight and largely underpowered, driven by golfers and the recently retired...but that's MY opinion and I'm entitled to share it via an angst ridden silly post.

And as for fitting in with the crowd, I note you're a Mini Cooper owner...hardly the last word in original thinking is it? People in glass houses...

P.S. - Love to know where you get a sales job that gives you a £60k company smoker...perhaps I'm in the wrong game!

I think the Jaguar range, now they have stopped calling themselves gorgeous, is actually pretty gorgeous.

A bit of tidying up to do at the bottom of the range, and as long as the XJ doesn't look too much like the XF, to keep the models nicely differentiated, then Jaguar is going places.

Hope they sell as well as they deserve to.

Entries have now closed, and our lucky PHer has been notified. clap

We had a huge response to this competition, as expected, so thanks to everyone who entered. Thanks also to Jaguar and especially Mike Cross for being such good sports and suggesting the prize in the first place!

Meanwhile, watch this space (or the PH homepage!) for more great competitions and giveaways in future.

If you're going to Goodwood, watch out for our winner, too. He'll be the one grinning madly out of the side-window of a lime-green Jaguar XKR as Mike gives it beans up the hillcourse on Saturday afternoon. Jealous? We are...
