Video: 2010 Cobra Jet Mustang Burnout

Ford's latest limited edition drag racer smokes its Hoosiers

Ford will officially unveil its 2010 drag racing Cobra Jet Mustang at the SEMA show in Las Vegas today - meanwhile here's a video expose of the new machine culminating in an epic burn-out.

The movie (courtesy of Jalopnik) shows a car that has been in development for two years. It has a hard act to follow, as those of you who follow these things will know the 2008 version won the NHRA Winternationals this year - as did its illustrious predecessor 40 years before.

While the Cobra Jet is limited to a production run of just 50 cars - all pre-sold at $77,000 - the good news is anyone with a basic V6 Mustang can build their own replica from the Ford Performance Parts catalogue. Or you can even do it with a fresh 'body in white', also newly available from the factory. Just the job for a wet weekend or two...

The Cobra Jet in the video and gallery is the SEMA show car which gets a special snakey silver livery. Customer Cobra Jets will all be red, white and blue.

As long as you can negociate the turn onto the return road at the end of the drag strip it doesn't really matter one bit if it does smile

On the tyres it say Hoosier - what does that mean?

If i look it up on the net - Wikipedia: "the word is used in a derogatory fashion in similar context to "hick" or "white trash"." I am sure this is not what it is advertising, or maybe it is?

Can anyone enlighten me, as i have seen it on a few straight line races in the UK.

thanks

I'm disapointed with the size of the Air filter. I'd want a bigger one than that.

excellent thanks - there is a great section on the web page with a History of the tyre and name. It all ties in nicely with the orgin of the tyre in Indiana and the orgin of the word also from Indianan.

you learn something every day!

I'm really warming to Mustangs lately but I think the UBB 1000 Mustang is the one for me in orange with the black stripes. VBH reviewing it may have swayed me.

You can never trust Wikipedia. Hoosier is not a derogatory name. In fact, the Indiana University sports teams are called "Hoosiers" as their mascot name.
