Video: Hennessey Venom GT Teaser
March 30th the big day for Venom GT, says John Hennessey
Watch this space on March 30th (or visit VenomGT.com), as that's the date we're expecting to find out a whole lot more about the exciting Venom GT. All we've got for now is this short teaser video, which proves nothing in particular except the new Lotus Elise based US V8-powered machine has the potential to look as good as we hope it goes!
The 1,000(claimed)hp hypercar features a twin-turbocharged LS9 V8, and is said to weigh less than 1100kgs. While it didn't appear at the Geneva motor show (where we originally thought it would turn up), we're now hoping to see it in the flesh at Goodwood this summer.
For more on this fabulously over-the-top project, read our previous article.

Being cynical for a moment, is this not just typical Yank HP-chasing, about to create an un-usable amount of power?
Can't believe I am saying this, but it sounds over-powered.
Time to buy a cardigan, it seems!! Ha ha
I think that is the point but, it will be incredibly fastCan't believe I am saying this, but it sounds over-powered.

I like the idea of the V8, the stretched bodywork looks good but 750bhp sounds too much and 1000/1200bhp now that's just ridiculous!
Why do the Septics have to launch cars with such stratospheric bhp claims?
400bhp would have done, 450 or 500 and I would have still taken it seriously. Then perhaps a year or two down the line when you've proved it all works release a mental, balls out 600bhp version, but opening with a 750bhp car with promises already of up to 1200bhp and suddenly I'm not so much impressed as concerned you've not fully thought this through!
I see trouble ahead, cooling issues if nothing else!

I agree...but the trouble is that everyone and his wife are launching 400/500/600bhp super-kit-cars nowadays, so to make headlines you need BIG numbers. Why do the Septics have to launch cars with such stratospheric bhp claims?

Doesn't make the car any better (although the donor here is promising), but it gets you more attention and probably more sales (or at least expressions of interest).
Personally, my NSX is arguably too quick for most UK roads, so IMHO anything above 250-300bhp/tonne is into "it had better be good on the track or I've wasted a lot of money" territory...
I love the concept of this, hey check out AC Cobra's for the success of English Chassis and US Power.
But I have to say my 950kg Ultima GTR track car had 420hp and that was plenty quick on roads and only on long tracks (e.g. Silverstone GP) did it feel 'average' in power. Everywhere else it just 'ripped'. I'm getting some more power into it now as I'm ready for it but happy up to 550ish.
1,100 is madness (in a bad way), especially through rear wheels only. And being a turbo what gearbox/driveshafts/tyre combo is going to put that down to the road effectively and reliably?

I think this wil go the same way as the speed 12. Loads of hype then a couple of production cars (most of which will end up in trees / ditches / low earth orbit) someone will realise it was a bit silly to put that much power in that small a car and the only people will buy it will say "check it out the fastest road car ever made, No I will not drive it because everytime i touch the throttle i end up in my neighbours fence and he has an injunction against me."

Insane amount of HP do not make cars fast. You need a 'package' to do that, i.e. transmission, drive (likely needs 4 x 4), brakes, etc.
I love the US approach to power (as in its easy to get more) but they have a LOT to learn about how to use that power. This Venom will be nigh on undrivable.
Holy Crap
Like the old Elise GT1 car they only made one of (first 3.5TT (from the Esprit) then a big cc SBC.
1000bhp is just balls though that is about 350 up on what a std LS9 makes (what just by tweeking things - er NO).
Even with the Std or a tad more than the ZR1 vette power this would spank Veyrons on power to weight and nimbleness.

Err, so their teaser is a load more drawings. And it's 2 weeks away? Disappointing, however I'm intrigued to know what 1200bhp n an Elise is like.
Did you miss the post on here with the pictures of it being loaded on to a trailer? It looks fantastic and I cant wait to see the finished product.
Thank god that companies are still producing these kind of cars. I could careless if it is over powerfull, there is no reason why it cant be made to be less.
