RE: Volvo Teases Hot Polestar-tuned S60
Friday 8th June 2012

Volvo has posted the murky teaser image of what it's calling the S60 Polestar on its US facebook page, more or less confirming that Volvo and tuner Polestar are indeed working on a hardcore version of the Volvo S60, as we revealed a couple of weeks back.
Volvo Teases Hot Polestar-tuned S60
First (shadowy) image of forthcoming hardcore Volvo revealed

We still don't know much more about the spec details of the car, other than our previously reported rumours that it will be powered by Volvo's Yamaha-designed V8 and will be four-wheel drive. Whispers on the internet even suggest that it could have upwards of 500hp.
What we do know is that the car will be revealed on 16th June at the Gothenburg City Race street circuit in Sweden. It'll be interesting to see what we get...
Discussion
The C30 ultimately would have had more appeal to a bigger audience, however making a car on an old platform with an old engine (albeit a great one) was probably never going to happen.
Using the V8 will be a good idea as its extremely reliable in N/A form and wont take much force to make it up to 500bhp ish, plus will sound fantasic and goes the other way for Volvo than other manufacturers are doing by not downsizing the engine.

This could be a seriously good car and a lot of tuning potential...
It's the same V8 as in the Noble M600 where it runs 650BHP; and even there the engineers say that they could have taken it to 750BHP
Engine internals wise id not bet on it being the same as the Noble, and id guess the turbo/'s will be very different indeed. It's the same V8 as in the Noble M600 where it runs 650BHP; and even there the engineers say that they could have taken it to 750BHP

But nothings impossible, decent AWD system, im guessing an Auto box that can hopefully take the power and chucking another 100 or so bhp into it with it being FI will be a giggle.
I suspect that they may well give this the green light.
Always had a fondness for the properly quick Volvo's - S60 / V70R, 850R etc. They were never going to be a volume seller, but made a decent left field choice for those wanting something different to the German norm and did wonders for their brand image IMO.
They were recently offering an official Polestar tuning chip for the D5 on the web configurator, which gave a decent boost to whats already a pretty decent 215bhp output. Although this isn't showing at the moment, i suspect that dealers can still spec it for you. You can also combine this with the same shade of blue as the concept was shown in, if you liked the aesthetics of that car.
I know that this may mean nothing, but if they have already sanctioned these options for those that like a faster Volvo, then perhaps they are serious about releasing this.
