Why Women Can't Park...

....but men are more likely to hit pedestrians

I'm so proud of myself

When it comes to having a car crash, men and women conform to stereotype, a new study of insurance claims has revealed, and as it's such a controversial subject we thought we'd share it with you.

Although women have more minor scrapes at slower speeds - such as denting the car while parking - men tend towards spectacular high-speed head-on smashes.

Women drivers appear to be more forgetful, distracted and downright scatty - losing keys, bumping cyclists and parked cars, and getting into trouble at traffic lights.

Aggressive, risk-taking men, by contrast, are more likely to hit pedestrians, trees and other cars head-on at high speed.

Female drivers are more likley to lose their keys or be involved in low-speed collisions than men

Road safety experts say the statistics provide compelling evidence that women are prone to lapses in concentration whilst men are most liable to reckless behaviour on the road. So now you know.

Bumping cyclists - You make it sound so insignificant, I don't know what they get so upset about.

Ok I dare: I scratch every now and then. Only when at low speed and mostly when I'm in reverse . . . Minor stuff not worthy to repair wink

Yep fair enough. yes

I agree with that. And just this morning, gospel truth (ok the gospel is a lie but that's not important right now) I was behing a woman this morning at 6.30 am, and she pulled away from a roundabout straight into the path of a cyclist!! He managed to stop in time, and so did she, right in front of him.

2 things struck me as odd;

1. I couldn't see her putting her make-up on!
2. She actually stopped
3. The cyclist had no front lights on, just one of them stupid flashy things that are about as visible as a tramps teeth in the dark.

So really both deserve a slap! smash

Indeed, you don't... but there are that many aggressive, 'territorial' road users these days I wouldn't be surprised if someone is forced to stop in the outside lane because noone will let them move across to the hard shoulder.

Hmm same could be said for my wife. The trouble is that with her its with such alarming regularity she hits walls, posts, stationay cars etc it got to the point with her last car (corsa) that every panel apart from the roof was damaged - the car was worth nothing.

I told her she was keeping the car until it was run into the ground.

Well a few month ago she excelled herself and did literally that. Coming out of a car park she failed to see the bright yellow painted traffic island separating two lanes and middled it.

she removed the sump, she smashed the engine mounts and left pieces in the middle of the road leaving the engine balanced on the cross member. She then proceded out of the car park and parked for about 1/2 mile before stopping and ringing me. "I think there is something wrong with the car, its making a funny noise".

When I got there I did what any self respecting male would do under the circumstances with an unpset wife - I blew my top and started shouting - I find it usually helps calm a situation down. rolleyes

ah well - the good thing that did come out of this is we got full book price despite all the damage to every panel.

Men have most of the high speed accidents ie motorway crashes? Is that perhaps because men drive 90% of motorway miles?

God help us all when that figure decreases... I dont see how increases in speed reduces scattyness...
