World's Fastest Car on eBay

No, it's not a Bugatti Veyron...

Ross Kemp look essential at 257mph
Ross Kemp look essential at 257mph
The problem with driving a $1million Bugatti Veyron flat out at 253mph is there is a constant worry that someone will creep past at 4mph faster in a car with Ford Focus headlights.

I am of course referring to the Ultimate Aero SSC, which despite not having the name or heritage of a Bugatti is annoyingly marginally faster at 257mph.

In fact it lays claim to the title of ‘World’s Fastest Production Car’, despite looking like a cross between a nineties Top Trump and a made-up car from Ridge Racer.

Still, if speed is the main objective the SSC certainly delivers the goods, and now the very car that broke the record is available on eBay. According to the seller the SSC even offers a better ride than the Bug, as qualified by ‘several gentlemen’ who own them.

Even though there is a 1,200hp V8 behind your head the car is also said to be ‘relatively quiet’ and there are a host of goodies such as Sat Nav, a ten speaker audio system, 7.5” Video/DVD Screen, and reversing camera. The bidding has currently reached $425,100 with six days still to go.

The reserve is not met but there’s a good chance the car will still go for less than a Veyron. And just think of the look on the Bugatti driver’s face as you do the slowest overtaking manoeuvre an empty autobahn has ever seen…

Buy the car on eBay here...

Even if a 257mph car isn't within everyones grasp, surely a grammer / spelling checker is?

This is what I always find tragic;

Mileage: 1,345 miles

At top speed that equates to 5.25 hours worth of driving... Just seems a bit of a waste to me. Hopefully the next owner won't be so frugal.

Well, someone is talking big hairy balls, either the people at Shelby in the USA or the good people of Coys

This is the car that went through at Coys (finished at under £170k, previous owner miffed!)

http://www.coys.co.uk./auctions/lot.php?auction=83...

The one on ebay AND the one at Coys BOTH claim to be the record breaking car.

So who's talking out of their bottom?

No, this is the tragic bit

"Amazingly this car is docile enough to drive around town and 100% dependable and reliable. It is extremely "Well Mannered" and only requires 91-93 Octane fuel. (Hi-Test)"

Jesus. I wouldn't shove 91 RON fuel in my lawn mower, even though I don't actually have a lawn

The irony of that statement biggrin

It is a substantial sum of money to play pub Top Trumps, isn't it! I wonder if the Sultan of Brunei has one or two tucked away in his collection?

I wonder how many mph it would add if it had headlights that fit flush with the bodywork

US RON is different to ours mate. It's probably circa 96RON by UK standards

+1

Also, it might help if the wiper was hidden... All in all it looks a bit pants.

US octane ratings are about 5 points below ours. He's quoting 96-99 octane in our terms, basically Super Unleaded.

In what possible way does it resemble a Delorean?

It certainly looks cheesy though!
