McLaren rolls out MP4-12C spec changes
Macca adds emotion to its motion for the 12C
It's probably fair to say that the McLaren MP4-12C - epic car though it undoubtedly is - has had a somewhat troubled birth.
First there were the bloody noses it received at the hands of the Ferrari 458. Then there were certain amounts of constructive criticism from potential customers, dealers, and the motoring press.
Contrary to some reports, however, the folks in Woking kept churning away at making Surrey's newest supercar through October.
But now the MP4-12C is ready for the upgrades that are McLaren's answer to its critics (constructive and otherwise), and these are currently being rolled out, with customers being contacted by dealers as we type.
McLaren is keen to stress that this is not a recall, however, as the '8.2-spec' changes will be handled by dealers. They will need cars for a couple of days, though, to thoroughly test all the car's systems...

It's just as well it's not a spoken word forum, you'd never be able to understand anyone as it'd all sound like "flllgarbeleghhgarblefellaaagli" as everyone tried to speak with Ron's balls in their mouths.

Do you seriously think a recall to sort out cars that are catching fire is the same thing as what Mclaren are doing here?
Look at the thread in the Ferrari forum. Hardly seems to have been a successful launch.

This 'upgrade' is very much just a re-call, so the post above applauding them for not charging the customer is laughable at best.
McLaren pretty much dropped a ball by letting a lot of cars leave the factory in a very pre-production state, and the above is just set out to right some of the wrongs. I bet the IRIS system still isn't going to work though.
I'd not be too happy had I spent £200k on this instead of a 458.
Serious note; I agree that its great to see a manufacturer taking even their already-sold cars so seriously, hope it catches on!

Makes for quite a nice view out of my office window watching them blast up and down all day.
Hats off to Mclaren for listening to the criticism and being pro-active about sorting it out so quickly. The car close up really is an awesome piece of engineering and design.

At least Mclaren are admitting to and dealing with the problem.
Especially when you consider that its not as serious a problem as engine fires a'la fezza and lambo who when faced with claims there were problems which were quite frankly very dangerous denied it vehemently and seemed to drag their feet to fix.
Bear in mind that lambo and fezza are old experienced car companies they should really not be making these sorts of amateur mistakes whereas Mclaren are new to mass car production so some niggles whilst from Mclaren are kinda unacceptable are not overly surprising.
Simple fact is they missed some things and have faced criticism and rather than whinge scream shout and deny they have listened and reacted to correct.
Ever seen any other car company do that?
