Pic of the Week: Porsche 917 at Le Mans

Mmmm... Porschey endurance goodness

What with the new-found spirit of co-operation between the Le Mans-organising ACO and the FIA, hopes are high that we are on the cusp of a new 'golden age' of sports car racing.

Which has inevitably got us thinking about other golden eras of endurance racing. And the halcyon days of the Porsche 917 has got to be one of the golden-est. Porsche, Martini livery and the Circuit de la Sarthe: does motorsport get any more evocative than this?

If you like this image, then you should pop along to Porsche's Facebook page (whence this image comes); they've been on a bit of a nostalgia trip too, posting up albums from Le Mans in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Which is nice of them.

Normal (1280x1024)
WideScreen (1440x900)
SuperSize (2048x1536)

Indeed it is not.

As a little request to the powers that be, can we have the "widescreen" ones in a higher resolution, like 1920x1200, please? Most widescreen monitors are 1080p or larger and the smaller widescreen looks fuzzy and blurred, plus the supersize requires cutting to fit.

1440x900 baffles me. Too big for a netbook, Too small for a standard widescreen desktop monitor. Should at least make it 1680x1050 for 16:10 and 1920x1080 for 16:9

And how about some nice portrait versions for phones?

And whilst you're at it, how about making me a cuppa? hehe

Indeed! Nearly 40% are now 1680*1050 or greater, 1920*1200 would be a good start, because a wallpaper can always be shrunk maintaining more quality than stretching to a big one.

Editing the Large ones has become rather tedious. frown

New wallpaper sorted.

Back in a time when Racing cars were big scary things.. I mean, look at the width of those rears?!
And you know it would spin them up in the blink of an eye!

Really?

WRC is unseen on TV and blatantly dull, F1 will soon be Sky which as we all know is rubbish and TOCA, er not sure where that went.

1440x900 is (or was anyway) the standard res for a widescreen laptop. Prior to widescreen desktop monitors becoming as popular as they are now.

You're right we could do with taking a look at what res's we put out and we may do in the future.
But always remember, you can put a larger picture on your background and have it scaled down.....(without losing aspect ratio). Mobile sized could be a good idea though. But the same applies to mobiles, download a picture, click hold and set as wall paper. select the bit you want. Job Jobbed surely.
Maybe something to consider for the future though.

Sports cars are a specific class, i.e. LMPs. Not all motorsports are sports car racing.

Well, it looks like a nice shot, but even changing the linked URL to read "917Large" as the naming system suggests still doesn't give me the super-size photo.

Sort it out!

The standard image is right and has replaced the JPS Lotus 72 on my prehistoric HP laptop. Other images are wrong as stated above .... nobody at PH Towers around to fix this?
