New McLaren 12C Spider - Time for tea?

Touring car ace Mat Jackson puts the new open-top McLaren through its paces

You'll probably have seen the new McLaren 12C Spider by now. You'll also have seen how the 625hp roadster adds a mere 40kg in weight over the coupe version.

What you won't have seen is the new car on the move, a situation that's remedied by this lovely-looking video of the new open-top McLaren.

Behind the wheel is BTCC driver and McLaren test driver Mat Jackson, proving rather definitively that yes, the 12C will slide. And we thought racing drivers didn't like sliding...

Feel dirty and naughty at the same time. Bit like when the missus catches you staring at another woman's norks....

Looks like the vid was shot at Klaas Zwart's place in Spain.

Looks nice but no BRG option, not even a shocking Volcanic green version. I'd like to know what it would look like, even if I can only own it virtually.

Looks like McLaren are trying hard to shed that rather robotic soulless image they have acquired over the years. Maybe a bit too hard, judging by the film.

Lovely car though. It will surely encourage a few night-club owners to part with their drug money.

NB: I didn't know it was actually an F1 car under the body panels

Anyone got a spare 3 million??

I know it doesn't cost that much, but I'd like to live comfortably too.

I'm starting to really warm to the mclaren and I think I prefer the spider to the 458 spider..... not that I'd be unhappy with either but I think I'd have the 12c spider GORGEOUS

The joy of working 5 minutes down the road from the McLaren factory is getting to see quite a few MP4-12Cs, as they are often seen buzzing around on the local roads clad in protective sheeting on the nose and other stonechip prone areas. I guess they are customer cars on shakedown drives, and their test route coincides with my journey into work smile.

Even with all the protective gubbins in place, it always strikes me how much prettier and more menacing these cars look in the metal, compared with the photos. They sound good too.

If the same holds true for the Spider, it must be astonishing in the metal. Sadly, I haven't see one yet. frown

You're absolutely spot on, they look quite a lot different in the metal. i was a bit 'meh' until i saw one on the road. Now I love them... just need a manual option...smile

Have to agree with the above comment on how they look in the metal. So much nicer than the photos. I normally hate soft tops but this is really nice.
