Time for Tea: Throwing The Race Away

Need to stop the race? Don't do this.

I'll just lay here...
I'll just lay here...
Throwing a strop: we've all done it. An early birthday when you weren't getting enough attention, that time in the toy shop when you wanted to get across just how much you wanted that toy.

Tantrums are all very well and good when you're five, at that age you can throw yourself on the floor as much as you like, but it's a different matter when you're a grown up...or is it?

Marlinton dos Reis Teixeira, aka 'Kalunga', slid from his motorcycle during the Rio Grande do Sul State Moto Grand Prix in Brazil. Forgetting that he was likely to be spotted by TV cameras, he set to work trying to restart his machine. The race was getting away from him, the anger was building and there was only one thing to do: fall into the middle of the circuit and stop the race. That'll work, it's bound to, and nobody will know he's faking it.

Sadly, it didn't go as planned. Quite a few riders passed him by before someone finally stopped to help. Kalunga was placed on a stretcher and put in the back of an ambulance...probably while saying "ooh" and "ahhh" a lot, in the style of Peter Griffin.

Did it work? No. The MotoRacing Association of Rio Grande do Sul State quickly found out about Kalunga's apparent fake injury and banned him from the championship.

Thanks to Porsche Supercup driver Sean Edwards, who posted this video link on his Twitter feed.

Classy.

Bloke deserves a good kicking from the other riders for that.

What a tw@t !

But am I missing something, if he is so badly injured to stop the race...

surely he can't "recover" for the restart so what would he have gained anyway ?

eek

brave, but stupid, and selfish - what if a fellow rider didn't see him until the last moment at tanked it trying to avoid him? Deserved ban.
