New Mercedes E63 AMG leaked

Facelifted version of AMG E-Class gatecrashes family photo

A full refresh for the Mercedes E-Class is a big deal, this being the car that underpins the brand DNA if you take a more traditional view of all things Merc related. The range debuts at Detroit next week and includes a heavily revised E63 AMG among its ranks, the hot version thus far kept under wraps.

Oops, how did that get in there?
Oops, how did that get in there?
And yet here it is, muscling in on a family photo to tease the news of the revised E-Class range. And of all the new cars in the range it's the one with the most dramatic new look, a much more distinctive grille and front bumper setting it apart from the rest of the range. Big vents and a prominent blade in the front apron, combined with the new lights, certainly give it a bit more fast lane presence - or uberholprestige as our German friends would have it - meaning S line and M Sport drivers should get the message more clearly than they might have before. No, that's not an E220 CDI in your mirror...

Teaser drives already conducted Stateside - where the new E63 will introduce four-wheel drive - indicate engine-wise the new car retains the twin-turbo, 5.5-litre V8 though suitably enhanced to make good on that aggressive new look. Full details to follow...

Agreed, do Mercedes struggle with perspective and scale?

I do not htink itis a photo, one of those computerised images similar to the ones estate agents do for new builds, the item never ends up looking like the image!!

It looks very similar to this dodgy render that was knocking about a couple of weeks ago.

Looks nice to me, hard to tell from that angle though.

I agree about the scale and proportions in the digital render though hehe

Yup, I don't think the images being 'computerised' is a problem, it's 2013! It's just that the image needs tweaking to look right.

That's a great looking motor and the rest of the range shapes up very nicely too.

That looks stunning.

Much better than the current version.

Looks purposeful and menacing.

I love the look of these but for the love of god, can Mercedes please release one of these with a more interesting gearbox choice. Yes I know modern auto's are very good blah blah blah but they need to have a decent manual or at the very least a DCT type option to be interesting for me. Their competitors have been ahead of the game for years.

Can someone photoshop it so there's another road above it and cars dotted about at random angles? Ta.

the new headlights are far better than on the current E-class, saying that though an E63 is still a menacing car in the metal

bumper treatment looks very similar to BMW 4 series 'concept' front end

More importantly you need to post pics of your 2.7 RS.

I always thought the whole point of an E63 AMG was that it was supposed to be understated? I prefer the current model. This new one looks a bit to 'shouty' to me.
