Mucking about in the snow

So, we've been out playing - bet we're not the only ones either, eh?

When Land Rover offered us a Range Rover Sport, ostensibly on the basis it was going to snow and it might be a bit of a laugh, who were we to say no. I did feel a little guilty though, 'working from home' on Friday as many others did and watching the flakes fall thinking I pitied the poor soul who had to be out delivering cars on a day like this.

Green laning, with a wintry hue
Green laning, with a wintry hue
I needn't have worried. As the sky darkened and the promised snow began to fall in earnest the gloom and flurries of flakes were pierced by two fingers of xenon and the low rumble of our approaching Sport. And its beaming driver. He'd had a great time by all accounts, the fast lane of the M40 his and his alone as others plodded along in the slush in lanes one and two.

I immediately put a pic up on our Facebook page and there was some doubt that the blingy wheels and summer tyres would be up to the job. True, there have been moments where the Sport has been little more than a two and a bit tonne, 70-grand sledge. But judicious use of low range engine braking and the snow setting on the Terrain Response has overcome any shortcomings in the rubber and we've had a most entertaining afternoon seeking out suitable, ah, drifting opportunities.

Anyone else been out for a play? Show us your pics if you have!

(Thanks to Ben for the driving. And not getting it stuck.)

Comet car parks are excellent! Even in the snow, I have been teaching my 17 yr old son to drive - and amazingly, there is no-one around...

This year in the E36

Last year in the E30

Great fun and gave me a good understanding regarding handling at the limit and opposite lock.

As a side note, I also had my first play with traction control (ASC+T) on the E36 and the effect it had on the car's ability to slide.

Saw somebody weaving about in an E92 M3 yesterday morning. Seemed to be handling two inches of snow better than I expected.

Went to Wales and back today in the FF to find some uncleared snow roads. Epic car on the frozen stuff, pictures to follow. 4WD, 650BHP is a LOT of fun on icy B roads.

I was on the M40 on Friday afternoon in the outside lane (in a car, not on the bike, although I did see 1 biker who was taking it (unsurprisingly) very slowly!)....... Following right behind another Range Rover while the middle and inside lanes were both at a standstill biggrin

Impressive levels of grip. I have Wintrac Xtreems on mine and they are superb in these conditions.

Looking forward to the FF post smile

PS, I took my brother to Sofia airport in his Suzuki SJ this morning. Left midnight, got back at 9:00 am... In the snow. 600km's of very limited visibility, and snow the whole way. Was fun. hehe
