It used to be around the 4 second mark.

As a colleague of mine once said, "To off and stop in four seconds, impressive!"

Not sure what it will be in this age, that time was with slicks and before the advent of traction control.

So how come the Ultima can only do it in 10.3?

A 2004 Jordan Ford could accelerate from 0-100mph and brake to a standstill (0-100-0) in 5.8 seconds.

So we're talking F1 cars rather that the Maclaren F1?

Most F1 cars will get to 100mph in about 3.6 - 4 seconds. To 60mph it's just under 3 seconds. A moto GP bike will do 0 - 60 in about 2.5 secs.

This site reckons on about 6.6 seconds for the average F1 car, probably means the record would be in the fives. I think the theory of it (i.e adding the best 0-100 and the best 100-0 time together) would certainly be in the 4's but getting it done in real life is another matter, one of the hardest parts to it appears to be making the change to hard braking as soon as possible after you have tripped the 100 mark, even for an F1 driver there will be some reaction time to build in.

As always, I reserve the right to be talking tosh

It might not stop very quickly, but a Top Fuel dragster is a bit quick 0-100

Zero to 100 miles per hour in 1.0 seconds
Zero to 270 miles per hour in 3.0 seconds
Zero to 330 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds

My friend, Graeme Wight jnr's old Gould Hillclimb car (2.5 ex-DTM V6 with about 450bhp) was tested against a Jaguar F1 car by Autocar a couple of years ago. It soundly beat the F1 car.

Graeme now has a new car with more power (somewhere in the region of 700bhp) which is even lighter - somewhere around 400kg all up. There can be few cars, short of dragstars, which can match this. Obviously, the tyres are far wider than an F1 car's, the wings are far larger etc and the car will run out of gearing at around 170mph.

?? not in my issue it didnt

Jag R3 0-100-0 5.9

Gould 2.5 0-100-0 7.2

Gould beat jag to 30mph & 60 mph but that was it.

Think there was some confusion as to whether it was Formula 1 or McLaren F1 when he asked this. Actually having now reread the original post and title I am wondering whether it was meant it to be Formula 1 or not as well.

Fido however appears to have disappeared. Maybe being beaten up by his cousin - the twit

Ultima's GTR640 made a new 0-100mph-0 record not that long ago. It's 9.8 secs with street tires. I wonder what a GTR640 with slicks can do. Maybe 6-7 secs?
