The bloody rotten state of the roads in this country are getting beyond a joke

My wife drove through a huge pot-hole on her way to work (unavoidable) and just look what it's done to her alloys! I'm even more angry because they are only about 3 months old and took an age to get delivered! When we went back to photograph the pot-hole it had been bodged in with a bit of "black-stuff" by the pikeys but it's still blatantly obvious that it was a huge hole! Contacted Bucks CC and they say they "might" pay (year right - they bloody will pay) for the repair. OK rant over... so does anyone know where I can get this sort of damage repaired? Problem is that the wheels come from Zender in Germany and it's a right hassle getting hold of them so I think a repair will be less aggravation for me. I contacted one or two places but they are only interested in spraying paint and not really doing proper repairs that require a bit of beating, pressing or hammering the metal work. Thoughts anyone? Rich...

Thanks that encouraging

They have given us a claim number in writing but it has all the usual caveats and disclaimers !!!

Sorry mate, just the tales of such matters on here over the years have usually resulted in disappointment.

You never know, you may get a result but I think its just another one of those things we pay for and dont get...

The fact that they have repaired the hole could be to your advantage. At least it means they were aware of it's existence and the need to fix it.

Indeed, as long as you have all the times it should be fine. Grab some pictures and speak to the relavent people at the council.

If they're genuine split rims, you need a new rim IMO. If not, a new wheel. It's not worth taking a chance with.

Doubt you'll see a penny from the council. I did the same thing a couple of years ago. Needed a new tyre, alloy, shock abosrber and strut top mount. All had to be paid for by me. Wasn't impressed.

Dad had this happen too him a year or so back. Damaged one wheel to the point the tyre went flat straight away and the rear was damaged a little worse than yours. Reported it to the police as if you were on a bike it could have been very nasty. Claimed on insurance and had too have four new wheels as his were discontinued, and a full check of suspenision etc. He tried contacting the council but with no responce. Insurance decided too take council to court. Finaly last month dad was in court as a witness and with photos, the council were made too pay up plus interest and costs. They had resurfaced the road a week after the incident and in doing so really admitted that the road was in poor condition.

Doh!

Ah well, just goes to show what a shit hole of a country we are starting to live in! Good ol blighty! Pay through the nose for pen pushers, tossers and dole scum!

Get the council for everything you can if they will pay. New alignment checks, try pair of front tyres etc etc... maybe if they start getting £1000 bills per car they'll start to take their job seriously!

The roads around Bucks are a complete joke. I've lost count of the amount of pot holes I've had to dodge in the past week and I only drive about 12 miles a day. The stupid patch up jobs only last a month or two. Even the speed bumps they've put in have massive chunks out of them or have sunk at the corners. The roads are a right mess. Hope you get the council to pay out.

If your not looking out for speed cameras you'll be looking out for the massive holes in the road.

Hi Rich
Sorry to hear your woes.

How about Pristine Wheels on 01908 282628 (featured in last months Sprint)?

It's got to be worth a phone call?

I wouldn't risk getting that repaired. If it is bent back into shape, it will always be a weak point.
No expert in metal fixing, but I'm sure this kind of thing would need to be heated up before set back to
shape, thus ruining the coating needing a repaint etc...

WRT making a claim, I had an almost identical wheel damage on an old car...ended up getting it rebalanced and
sold it on the car! Never got round to claiming as I couldn't see any mileage in it, but the place i did it is
still bad. I've heard of people being succesfull with these kind of claims, take pictures, log dates, put it all
in writing and send it off with the repair bill to the council. If you get no luck, consult a solicitor and take
them through the small claims court if they advise you have a chance.

Agreed. That wheel looks permenantly dead to me. New wheel time.

It's an arse, and I live in dread of it happening to me.

Well thanks for the input chaps, on the basis of your comments and my abortive efforts to find someone to repair it I have just contacted the suppliers and ordered another rim. Regarding the pictures, Bucks C.C. will bloody accept digital photos because a digital camera is all I have and I don't see why they should be able to stipulate the rules regarding their liability - I'll leave a judge to decide what evidence is admissible if necessary If necessary I will do exactly as suggested and not hesitate to let my solicitor loose on them, he'll enjoy that!

p.s. Here's the hole after it had been filled, imagine that 3"-4" deep!!!

This happend to me fairly recently and I was told the wheel was beyond repair. After a letter with phone calls etc for a few weeks the council paid up for a new wheel tyre, so dont give up hope just yet.... good luck

Our council tax pounds at work, paying for a new wheel rather than a trip to the optician.

I know someone that had similar mishap...barring his suspension was pushed back into the wheel arch by about 6"

The council will payup if you have photographic evidence of the damage (which you have) and photographic evidence of the pothole in question...get there quick if you havent, because you will never see the council move so fast to repair it when it has been reported!!!

Take the pictures, report the damage in the form of a compaint and tell them that you are seeking compensation to reimburse you for the damage caused to your car...if you can get a friend at a garage to write up an estimation (have him add a few other bits too to pad it out!!)

They should pay up pretty quick if you act fast enough

If the council/roads authority can prove that they have a reasonable inspection and repair procedure, i.e. regular inspections and timely repairs, then I'm sorry you won't get your repairs covered. If the council behaves reasonably in law there is no responsibility for damage repairs. Fact!

Jigs, i) the actual reason for my post was to ask if anyone knew of anyone capable of repairing this wheel not to ask advice on whether or not I will get compensated and ii) you may shout "fact" but it is also a fact that I know of people who have been recompensed by local councils for damaged wheels so you could be wrong - thanks all the same.
