Was having a rather heated dispute last night with a friend regarding an insurance issue. Wondered if any of you insurance experts had a definitive answer on it.

This is the scenario, I am trying to sell my girlfriends car, it is in a locked underground garage therefore we let the insurance lapse last week. I have fully comp on my own seperate policy for my own car.
The question is can I drive my girlfriends car, third party only of course, under my policy even though my girlfriends actual car has no valid insurance anymore???

I think this has been covered before quite recently.

IIRC, the upshot of the debate was "yes you can" as long as she gives her permission, but as soon as you park up on the road, its (a) not covered and (b) committing an offence.

CHECK YOUR OWN POLICY FIRST. Being 'fully comp' as people put it DOES NOT automatically grant 3rd party only on anyone else's car. It is a common addition, usually 'free', but is NOT guaranteed - e.g. if you work in the motor trade you won't get it; if you have a medical condition you probably won't get it; if you have a...chequered...driving history you probably won't get it; etc etc etc. Check the paperwork - it'll be a clause on your Certificate somewhere. If in doubt mail me offlist and I'll try and advise.

Also note that some insurers exclude vehicles owned by members of your own household ! Easiest thing coul djust be to ring your broker/insurer to confirm.

I'll be posting some pics on the Ferrari/Lambo section of PH later this week.
As far as seeing it in the flesh, Chalups & I are going to Bruntingthorpe on Sunday for the speedtest so could pop into yours on the way back???
Hows the new M3?
