Final Clio 197 built

Renault create a special car in memory of RenaultSport fan

Final car will be finished in Glacier White
Final car will be finished in Glacier White
We love the Clio 197, it's great to see that a mainstream manufacturer has the courage to produce cars with real PH appeal in an age when MPG and green issues are so high on the agenda

The last of the, take a deep breath, Renault Clio RenaultSport 197 F1 Team R27 models has been completed at the RenaultSport factory in Dieppe in Northern France. The R27 had a new 'cup' chassis with stiffer springs and dampers and a lowered ride height. Just 500 cars were produced.

The last car is to be given to a member of the website renaultsport.co.uk called James Brookes who currently drives a Clio 172 Cup. The Brookes family are keen Renault fans with his father Steve working at a Renault dealer and brother Will had a Clio, the Brookes family had planned to buy a 197 F1 for some time.

Will sadly passed away following an accident in September, and friend David Lee approached Renault through the site, and asked if a one off car could be produced for James in memory of his brother. RenaultSport agreed, and offered James the last car produced in a one off colour- Glacier White.

James said 'I am overwhelmed by all the support that has been given to make this happen and would like to say special thanks to all at Renault. In particular, I'd like to say thank you to my friend David who put the idea to Renault in the first place. This is a very special car, built in memory of a very special person and it will be enjoyed as he would have wished'.

The PH team raises its coffee mugs to Renault, James, David and of course to Will.

They are awarding the family for it's loyalty to the brand.

Not that I know anything about the story behind it and I also doubt you do, but when someone dies you normally have to have a bit of respect. I guess what I’m saying is yes someone is dead but you don’t say “So someone dies and the get a free car wtf”

They planned to buy one anyway, ergo had the cash.

Dude, go wring one out or something, or ease off on the coffee...

Which bit of that says they got it free..?

They agreed to produce the last one in a unique colour, and offered the car to them - does not mean they didn't pay for it.
