New Lancia Delta

Lancia reinvents legendary hatch

Images of the latest version of the iconic Lancia Delta have emerged on the internet, prior to the car’s unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Italian firm is pinning its hopes on the new Delta, along with a host of other models, to revitalise the brand.

Motorauthority.com has published the apparently official images revealing the hatchback’s quirky design.

The rear of the car is particularly unusual but we think overall it looks rather good.

No word yet on any hot Integrale-esque models but the top model is rumoured to be getting 200bhp.

The engine lineup will consist of a series of small capacity turbocharged petrol and diesel units, available with either six-speed or auto ‘boxes.

The car will be based on the Fiat Bravo hatchback.

God that's ugly.

I don't think trying to copy the back of the Volvo C30 did it any favours either.

I quite like it: it's quirky, like recent Lancias (Ypsilon for example).

Shame they nicked the rear lights from a Suzuki Swift, though.

+1 The original was a legend. I think (hope) this one will turn into myth.

Only the Delta integrale was a legend - the original Delta that it was based on was just a humdrum shopping car.

These days im sure Lancia means "Fiat/Alfa with leather seats and strange styling, only sold in Italy" so dont worry, not likely to see it over here.
