PistonHeads Track Evenings

Join us on track this summer

PistonHeads have teamed up with MotorSportVision to offer a series of track evenings exclusively for PHers at some of the UK's best circuits. We'll also have a big BBQ to round things off, all in all it's a very agreeable way to spend an evening.

The good news is that we'll run an open pitlane format so you can go on and off track as you please, and as places are limited to 40 cars per event, you can be guaranteed plenty of circuit time- just watch out for me missing the apex and ruining your lap time.

The evenings will be very relaxed so please don't feel intimidated if you have limited track experience, the team from MSV will ensure you are well looked after and as it's a PH event there will be plenty of friendly faces around to offer you advice if you want it.

Signing in starts at 15.30, a briefing at 16.30 and the track opens at 17.30 running until 20.00. MSV will host a BBQ at 20.00 to give you a chance to relax after your session and it also gives a great opportunity to meet with other PHers.

MotorSportVision have kindly allowed us to have spectators at these events, so we will be arranging PH meets at each venue too. It's free to turn up, and we will have large parking areas available and the BBQ is open to all. Food is included for track drivers and is available at an extra cost to spectators. The trackside bars will be open until the BBQ starts.

Unfortunately, spectators are not permitted at Bedford Autodrome so we can't offer a PH meet at the 4th September event.

We will have four events:

Brands Hatch: 10th April- £119

Snetterton: 15th May- £99

Brands Hatch: 17th July- £119

Bedford Autodrome: 4th September- £125

More events may be added, including full day sessions if demand requires.

To book your place please visit the website here

If you would like to join us for the PH meet and BBQ sign up for Brands 10/04 here, Snetterton here and Brands 17/07 here

Usual MSV noise and safety rules apply, so check the website above for full terms and conditions.

Noise limits are:

Brands Hatch 102dB(A)

Snetterton 105dB(A)

Bedford 101dB(A) static and 88.5dB(A) drive- by

Doesn't look like bad value with only 40 cars on track so should be plenty of track time, and an evening session does away with the need for an early start to the day.

Just got to get my exhaust noise tested to make sure I'll be ok, and I'm more there than you can shake a stick at. No, that's not a proper sentence biggrin

I've been to Bedford. The GT circuit is bloody brilliant with plenty of run-off areas in case you cock it up. biggrin

If you have a bog standard car and have a quiet exhaust then you'll be fine. However, i know plenty of people with modified cars, with bungs in their exhausts, that have been black flagged and had their day runined because their exhaust on the drive by was deemed just outside their criteria which is pretty damn low at 88.5db IMHO. They also take into account tyre noise so if you have super sticky tyres that like a good squeal or roar they may also get you chucked off!! Nothing worse than going to a track thinking you have the noise issue covered, you get on track, do 1 lap and get black flagged!! You won't get your money back either!!

I think Snet and Brands are better venues if you have a non-standard car with exhaust and engine mods.

Any day you choose though at those prices should be pretty damn good VFM. Excellent!!

Yup - bedford is now pretty much only for standard cars and even then F430's (for example) aren't making the noise.

Brands for me biggrin

The only thing with trackday insurance is although you can pick some up for less than £100 for the day, your excess should anything go wrong will be pretty high.

Track Day Insurance:

Something further North would be nice ? I'd be interested in an "all day" event anywhere,as it's a long way from Scotch Corner for an evening. Cheers.

Yes, that'll be grand - i'm in Newcastle and am need of popping my track virginity. Might get down for the Snetterton and stay over in a travl lodge actually. smile

PS - i'd like some instruction, anyone know if the MSV tutoring is worth it?

Cheers,
Rob.

I'm seriosuly tempted by the Brands evening, however, although I've always wanted to do a track day i've never quite managed it yet. Would I be a bit out of my depth doing one of these?

Sorry in advance if I sound like an idiot but what does (A) after the noise levels mean on the details for noise limits at each venue?

Cheers, Jonny
