New Hornet Buzz
Chrysler says production Hornet will arrive in 2010
American carmakers don’t bother too much with making small cars for the home market because they know most people want an SUV or pick-up. But one concept caught the public’s imagination – the Dodge Hornet – thanks to its macho looks and small size.
Now that petrol prices are soaring everywhere Americans are becoming a bit more receptive to small cars and as a result Chrysler has now said that it is planning to bring out a production version of the Hornet. Apparently the Hornet production saga has been on and off more times than a light switch but Thomas Hausch, Chrysler's vice president for international purchasing, recently told Financial Times Deutchland that ‘we are working intensely on the Hornet study’.
He also claims that the company ‘will announce something on this in the near future’.According to the report the car will be launched worldwide, including the US, in 2010 and it is even rumoured the car will be built in China.
Chrysler is also said to have reached a deal with Nissan to have the Japanese carmaker build it an all-new small car, which could be the Hornet. The Hornet’s chunky looks were very well-received when it debuted some time ago and we’re hoping they will be little changed when (if) it reaches production.
