Is Porsche Planning a GT2 RS?

A lighter 580bhp version of the GT2 could be on the cards...

Can the GT2 really go quicker?
Can the GT2 really go quicker?
Porsche could be working on ultra-hardcore GT2 RS designed specifically for track days, PistonHeads has learnt.

Despite the fact the 530bhp GT2 is already blisteringly quick a source close to the German carmaker revealed that a faster, lighter and more powerful version is on the cards.

The latest GT2 has managed to shake off the ‘widow maker’ status of old but some owners have found it more suited to the road than the track. An RS version would solve that and could be the quickest road-going Porsche around a track ever, bar perhaps the GT1.

If it goes ahead the new car is rumoured to feature a Perspex rear window and centre-locking wheels. There would also be other substantial weight-saving measures to contribute to an incredible 200kg reduction.

Power is expected to be increased by 50bhp to 580bhp and it is thought that just ten RHD examples will be built. If it does make it to production expect the GT2 to make an appearance next Spring.

Never really loved the GT2 not a big fan of turbo charged Porsche's but an RS version of this would be something to behold. Any bets on how long it takes for someone (probably Porsche) to start going on about 'ring records?

Translated: "Porsche's supercar is being whipped by a £50k Nissan, and they desperately need to recover some dignity by pretending the souped up GT2 is for a completely different reason".

Heh.

Well the fact the GT2RS will probably be almost twice the price might have something to do with it!

How would they save 200 kilos weight?Even removing the air-con,stereo,sound deadening, carpets, glass rear window, etc, would save no more than 50 kilos. So it would probably have to be clad in carbon panels, rolling on magnesium wheels and spitting through titanium exhaust.

That would push the price well over 200k,which seems like a lot for a track-day toy that would still get embarassed by sub-100k open top track-day specials like Radical or coupes like the Ultima, which can be fitted with the LS7 engine.

Exactly. Saying that Nissan should just compared to the Turbo.

Given that Porsche haven't said anything concrete, surely this is wild summisation!

Of course, Gemballa/Ruf/9FF (and others) will make you a 600BHP+ 911 so you have to wonder why the good people of Stuttgart feel its worth doing anyway

The current GT2 weighs 1,440kg's and is of course rear wheel drive only.

Guy's right - loosing 200 kilos sounds very unlikely, bear in mind an RSR weighs 1245.

I reckon 1350 is more likely.

Isn't it amazing how much weight cars have to carry around these days.

I have an old 911 Turbo that weighs around 1300 kilos if I remember right. Ok, the new ones are 4x4 on one hand,
but have acres and acres of plastic on the other. So exactly how much weight is all this nanny-legislation actually contributing to the total weight of a car? And how is dragging all this gubbins around helping
to reduce pollution, when ditching it would use less fuel?

You may think I'm moaning about nothing, but 2-300kg is the equivalent of about 4-6 rugby-players.

That would be rugby playing Oompaloompas, then? 2-300kg = 4-6 rugby players = 50kg per man.

I'm not sure the world needs yet another 911 variant and I'd question the likelihood of shedding 200kg but a (more) hardcore GT2 ? PAG have the money and I'd like to see what they could do...
