I have some stone chips on the bottom of the bonnet, round the front lights and on the wing mirrors of my Chimaera an I want them sorting out.

I've heard ChipsAway are good and wondered if anyone else had experience with them, particularly if that experience is on an Imperial Blue Chimaera!

Cheers.

Dont expect miracles and you wont be disappointed, IMHO with front end stone chipping if your skilled with a touch up stick you can do just aswell.

Where chipsaway etc are really worthwhile is scuffed bumpers/mirror housings etc and things like that

I used them on a scratch one of my previous cars and they did a fantastic job. You really couldn't tell that it had anything wrong with it once they had done their stuff. Quite cheap too, about £60 ish.

As I was so pleased I asked if they could do anything for the stone chips on the Chim, they were very reluctant. They said that they couldn't treat such a big area and that they thought I'd be better getting a respray. It may be worth pointing out that the chap who did mine was fairly new to to the job.

It's probably worth speaking to your local franchise owner.

It's a franchise operation so AFAIK quality varies a lot. The branch in Woking I hear is particularly good whilst the one that serves Milton Keynes made a right hash of another car.

Aargh, that's frustrating. I'm working in Woking but have already booked my flights back so can't bring the car down.

I should get a quote from a decent bodyshop I guess - can anyone recommend a good one near Manchester/Cheshire?

If you have the time you may wish to spend the weekend fannying around with a touch up brush. But for what it costs you may as well sit back and let "chipsaway" do it. The results will not be a perfect repair (for that you will need a front end respray about £900) but for around £100 it will be as near as dam it!! Thus giving you more money in your pocket for Xmas and a few quiet but not too much or you may end up with on your nice new paint work.
