I always thought, if you took something in, you should get something vaguely similar in return, but no.

Its a wardrobe with wheels and handles like one too!

very PH.

Had Audi A4 Estate, went to garage for repair (not my fault!) and got a Suzuki Swift 1L which was black with bright yellow signwriting, dead basic. I cried!

Got a 3-cylinder Corsa while my VX was in for it's MOT last month. Vibration and noise were almost unbearable. Acceleration only seemed possible downhill, and even then 0-60 takes at least 30 seconds.

Took in my E46 M3 for it's first service in Scotland, and got given an old Fiesta

What was worse was that I then popped into Halfords to get some posh oil for the M and was asked why I needed such good quality oil, so I told them it was for my new M3... when I left, several of the staff were watching as I got into a 5 year old Fiesta. I'm sure I saw one of them mouthing 'To55er'

Jesus, had a Kia Pride (mushy pea green, not a nice pink shade as mentioned previous). What a shed. Gearbox felt like stirring mums christmas pud. Awful.

Also have had a Fiat Multipla (which mistakenly I took into work and had the piss rightly ripped) and the crowning turd was a Hyundai Atoz. I worked from home that day and put the car in the garage as I was so shamed to be seen with it. On the way back to the dealer I tried maxxing it, and got 74mph out of it. Then I switched the aircon off and got it up to 79 when it ran out of puff.

1.0l Micra in purple. It was delivered to my work and my crash damaged car taken away. The bl00dy wipers wouldn't switch off. The company who gave it to me treated me like an idiot when reported the fault and couldn't get me another car until the next day. I had to drive home, in late August, in the blazing sunshine with the wipers going full chat. I looked like a tw4t.

Add to that it wouldn't exceed 65mph up the slightest gradient and I think I got overtaken by a hedgehog on a dual carriageway. Hateful hateful excuse for a car.

After working in the trade for 15 odd years, this has always mystified me.

Can people not take the view that the dealerships are 'helping' customers out by giving them a free car to use?

I know its the norm to expect a courtesy car but its not always been the case.

Why do people think they're entitled to a courtesy car of their choice?

Not a rant but an observation.

edited to add: Dealers would need about 25 courtesy cars to satisfy everybody!

Most of the place I take cars your lucky if they give you a lift to the nearest bus/train stop
Not needing a car to replace the one you take in is an advantage though
But off in the other direction whats the best 'courtesy' car you've had, when my last BMW was being 'rebuilt' I had a total of 3 different courtesy cars during the work, a nasty nasty Corsa, a nearly as nasty Micra (the only car anyone has ever given me propper out the car bang on the window style road rage in) and then a lastest shape at the time, 5 Series BMW

I had one of these whilst the muppets at Inch**** failed to fix my door. I don't think mine would have got to 60. I agree about the vibration - had me thinking it was a diesel at first! I hope the 4-cylinder ones are better if this is currently the UK's best-selling motor....

Worst courtesy car I've had was a Suzuki Alto 1 litre auto - a tiny shed on wheels.

Had to rev the poor little sewing machine for about a week just to pull away.

My Father-in-law was once given a bright pink Fiat Chankychonka whilst his Golf TDi was being repaired. I had weeks of PT* mileage out of that one!
