BMW 5-Series: Live PistonHeads Reveal

See the reveal of BMW's new saloon at 7pm

These are the first official pictures of the all-new BMW 5-series, which you can see revealed 'live' on PistonHeads this evening.

The online event is scheduled for 7pm GMT tonight (8pm Central European Time), and the video feed will be viewable in the forum thread below this article.

As you can see from the teasers pics revealed in advance of the big event, the new 5's nose has more than a hint of the latest 7-series about it. In fact the new model is reportedly based on the same cut-down version of the 7-series platform that underpins the new BMW 5-series GT.

Of more interest to PHers perhaps, will be the news that BMW is already well advanced on the next M5 - which will apparently get a version of the twin-turbo V8 from the X6M.

You can ben it will be fat, awkward and completely unimaginative. Why can't we have stuff with the shark-like muscle of the 8-series any more?

Why are they bringing that really flat front into the range? It's hideous, can't be good for aerodynamics or pedestrian safety?

Don't think I'll be watching somehow...

oh wow, I can hardly contain my excitment!

Me thinks the styling budget on this one may have been subjest to some cost cutting.

Lets hope the new BMW M5 is something very special as this sneak view of the 5er looks pretty dull IMO.

Is it not a sin on PH to dislike BMW?

So much negativity already.

I for one think that it looks pretty good, and it will of course be the class leader for performance and driving enjoyment.

Roll on the 'M' version.

+1 There's nothing wrong with the current model but I suppose it has to be changed for the sake of it. Owners of these should be chuffed if this is all that is to follow.

I thought from previous reports of "rediscovering elegance" they were getting rid of Bangle's gonky lights and random shutlines. From those teasers it looks like his ghost still haunts the styling dept.

Is it just me or does this look older than the current 5 series?

I bet if you were to see all of the 2000-2010 cars back in the eighties and had to place them all in order of their manufacture, you would get a lot of them the wrong way around. They facelift cars just for the sake of it now, there's nothing inspiring or radical anymore. Thanks to the poor reception to Bangle era BMW design we can now expect this lukewarm blandness to all new models. There are so many beautiful shapes from every decade of BMWs, the Bauhaus 2002, the E9 Coupes, what the hell are we going to take from this decade?

I hope the rest of it looks better, as I really wanted to like this car. But from these shots the front looks swollen much like most of the current peugeot range, bigger car fronts dont work on smaller ones.
