£1.2m supercar is Aston's fastest yet - with more to come?
Aston Martin says its £1.2m One-77 supercar has moved closer to setting a new all-time record for the British marque in initial high speed testing, after surpassing all predictions and comfortably breaking the 200mph mark.
The One-77 is currently undergoing development ahead of its planned launch in 2010 with high speed testing taking place at an industry proving ground in southern Europe.
In a series of test runs completed last week, Aston says the One-77 exceeded original expectations and recorded a 220.007mph (354.86kmh) top speed in dry but windy conditions. Dynamic testing is now scheduled to continue into the New Year.
Powered by a new 7.3 litre V12 engine, the One-77 looks to be living up to its aim of delivering breathtaking power and performance for a lucky few buyers, with new pictures released today from the test track showing the dramatically styled two-door in action.
According to the company, the One-77 is the ultimate expression of what Aston Martin stands for and will combine modern technology and design with craftsmanship and ultimate exclusivity to create the world's most desirable automotive art form.
As name suggests, production is limited up to a maximum of 77 individually numbered examples, with deliveries expected to commence in mid-2010.
I have to say I don't really 'get' this car. Despite the fact it's quicker than their other offerings, it just seems like a more expensive, uglier version of the DB9 to me... Personally I'd rather have a DBS thanks.

This is for the guy that already has a DB9 and DBS.
I know this is function over form, but I really hope Aston don't start put vents and lumps on their normal cars. The DBS bodykit was bad enough. Keep it classy and understated please AM!
Have to say the looks do nothing for me, maybe its because I expect an Aston to be more subtle than this, I find it quite garish and over the top. I'm aware its probably all functional and the performance will be epic, but it doesn't have the classic elegence I associate with Aston Martin.
Indeed. Aston are getting confused. They should be like Bentley, only good looking. They seem to be heading towards a slight tackiness, along the lines of the Reventon. Perhaps this is due to who is buying - Arabs and footballers. Oh well, cash is king I guess.

Oh come on people. What are you expecting, a car that looks the same as a DBS, DB9 or Vantage? You'd be saying 'Looks like a DB9/DBS/Vantage. Why don't they do something original?'
