Mini Crossman SUV Sketches Leak Out

Patent Office drawings reveal more information about Mini's forthcoming SUV

These patent application drawings give the best clue yet as to how the new Mini Crossman SUV will look when it hits showrooms later this year.

The images have leaked onto the web just days before the Mini Beachcomber concept is due to be unveiled at the Detroit show.

As expected, they reveal that the Mini Moke-inspired Beachcomber is basically little more than a stripped-down, blinged-up version of what will become the Crossman, a supermini-sized SUV.

One more thing the drawings seem to reveal are Mini Clubman-style 'suicide' rear-hinged rear doors. The boot sticks to a conventional hatch, however, avoiding a Clubman-style 'twin-door' layout or SUV-style side-hinged boot.

Crap.

They're really milking this brand now. Its not really a Mini any more is it (even the normal one is pushing it IMO).

Christ on a bike! Let's move on, eh? You've had most of a decade to get used to the Mini/BINI issue.

Stretched, upmarket Fiat Panda? Anyway, it's a stretch for the brand as well...

BMW are making some astonishingly bad cars at the moment. First the X6 and now this atrocity.

I think the ph-o-meter needs extending to -10 for this one.

Shirley they're just running out of sensible ideas of where to go next with the Bini branding.....

How much further can they stretch it before we end up with something that looks absolutely nothing like a Mini at all?

I'm guessing Fiat will be scratching there heads with the 500 soon to

Obviously BMW feel that the well of fashion victims has not yet been totally exploited, what next a MINI cross-over 4x4 coupe convertible maybe?

Just what the try hards of the world need wouldn’t you say?

Remember the original Fiat Panda 4x4 from the 80s? It had a Steyr Puch 4WD drive system and was amazing in the snow. I'd love to get hold of another one of those.

Yep, they were great. I used to hammer one of those about in the fields when I was a about 12. It was much better in the snow and mud than my parents Shogun.

I can't help but wonder what they're patenting.....nothing looks too original from those sketches.

Sickens me slightly that it takes a German company to be so successful with what should be a British product.

It's pathetic.

Something is all wrong here. Bmw have clearly lost the concept of a mini. Its so far removed from what mini used to be it could have a Korean badge.
