RUF Roadster Apes Classic 911 Targa

But would you be a chimp to buy one? More gibbering below...

A 1967 Porsche 911 Targa was the inspiration for this new Roadster model from Alois Ruf and his team. They'll make one for you if you're blessed with a spare £200k and (one might possibly opine) the desire to offend against nature.

RUF says its new offering is equipped with an integrated roll cage which combines the safety of a coupé with the fresh air feeling of a convertible. The centre piece of the roof can apparently be removed and folded, as can the flexible plastic rear window and the 'targa' panels.

As a result, you can drive the car completely enclosed, completely open, or with a closed roof and open rear window, or open roof and closed rear window.

If you're not put off by all those choices, they'll build you a car with 400hp six cylinder power, or as a 560hp Turbo, and the base price for the Roadster starts at Euro 195,000 before tax.

On a different tack altogether, we're wondering how long it might take a workshop full of monkeys to recreate the entire Porsche back catalogue, given a sufficiency of different sized spanners. Or perhaps monkeys can only type...

Forget that, where is that 550bhp V8 911 they were promising?

I agree. I love the original targa shape with the curved glass back window, but this is a bonination! I note how they didn't dare send a picture of its rear view.

Terrible, why the hell would you choose this awful thing over a coupe or convertable?

Love Porsches and Ruf's but I hate this thing!

Porsche back catalogue and a bagful of spanners. Well really Pistonheads!
As I saw the baboon rump of the new(?) speedster from Porsche I thought to myself no one does retro Porsche better then Porsche, in fact most Porsche production is retro these days isn't it? Classic, Speedster, Spyder, and the caravans, sorry Cayenne. Unless they pull their finger out design wise and except 918 if you can ever afford one. Thank god I have a real old one as depreciation is now homing in on Porsche and reliability is it improving what with oil leaks, mulching radiators & air con failures and don't mention oil seals or cylinder sleeve fixes. No Porsche are fast losing the plot in the middle market and not many can afford GT3RS or Turbo. Where is the 20k Porsche or even 30k apart from 996 cast offs?

yes I saw the headline and the prospect of RUF power and Targa looks had me salivating but the result just makes me weep. I think the flat nose of the original balanced the rear because this really doesn't work.

It looks like the front half of a 21st Century 911, and the back half of a classic 70's model.

Two very different sized cars.

looks like somebody has found a 997 photo, a 1970s Targa photo and played with photoshop for 5 minutes.

They probably couldn't shift the Greenster models that they'd hoped to so they've stuck a decent engine in the back and called it the Roadster, but I wish that Ruf just stuck to engines (steering wheels, instrument faces and and possibly road wheels) and left the rest alone.
