Pagani Huayra: Official Pics And Specs

The teasing's over as the new Pagani is officially announced



This is the new Pagani Huayra, the replacement for the Zonda, which has finally been revealed officially after weeks of teases and leaks.

The big news is that the old Mercedes V12 has gone, to be replaced by, well, a Mercedes V12.

But instead of the 7.0-litre naturally aspirated unit found in the Zonda, there's a 6.0-litre V12 with two turbochargers attached.

These can be had in two trims: 'standard', which offers 700bhp and 664lb ft of torque, or a 'Sport' version, which will furnish the driver with 730bhp and a truly stomach-churning 811lb ft of torque. That's enough for a 0-62mph time of less than 3.5secs, and a top speed of at least 230mph.


The basic block is the same as you'll find in an SL65 AMG Black Series, but various internal bits and bobs have been tweaked (headers, pistons, manifolds, etc) at the behest of Pagani.

The rear wheels are coupled to the engine via a seven-speed single-clutch paddle shift transmission, which can also be controlled via a stubby centre console-mounted lever.

The gearbox itself has been designed by British specialist Xtrac - the same folks who made the transmission for the Zonda R.


If you're wondering where all the wings and spoilers that sprouted from every surface of the old Zonda have gone, the answer is that they've been ditched in favour of four individually moveable flaps.

These adjust like ailerons in order to manage the flow of air over the car and to create downforce at individual corners when required without compromising aerodynamic efficiency in a straight line.

Inside, the mix of leather and intricate metalwork is instantly recognisable as a Pagani job, and there are also such niceties as sat-nav and a proper Bluetooth phone connection.


Which perhaps doesn't quite justify the near-£850k asking price. But then Pagani isn't exactly chasing big sales volumes.

It might be planning to build rather more Huayras each year than it did Zondas, but it is planning to sell them in China and the US for the first time, so there should be plenty of new customers out there...

Burning the midnight oil chaps?

Anyway - most definitely want. In Sport trim of course, so I can reverse the rotation of the planet at the next set of traffic lights.

Looks just like an uglier version of a Zonda.

Bet it feels fast though with all that torque yikes

Looks more of a cohesive design than the Zonda to my eyes, though I am not feeling the high front end and the rear is too "neat". That said, it has just made the Zonda look dated too.
I'm so happy I don't have to make a decision though smile

Looks like a cheap kit car version of a Zonda, with some fancy doors. Not a fan, but I'm sure 30 or 40 limited editions down the line they'll look much better.

As i said on the other thread.

Mouth is to large.
Lights make it look like a deformed spider.
Rear clusters look like they were designed by my 3 month old grandson.

Its not horrific per se but the zonda
is MUCH nicer to look at.

The kit analogy is a good onebiggrin

Are we sure there isn't an MR2 hiding under all that carbonhehe

I love it. It is a much classier design than the Zonda and I love the front end - but it is a bit of a shame that Pagani have not chosen to keep position of maker of most spaceship like supercars!

Its ok from the side, but then you see it from the front and argh, what a mess! The gawky, gaping mouth will hopefully get phased out over coming editions. Makes me love the outgoing Zonda even more, especially in the later versions where it looked absolutely sorted.

Lack of a proper manual box is a bit of a bummer too.
