Porsche Panamera S Hybrid Here In June

Tax-friendly Porsche will please fleet managers, but probably not Porsche purists

Presumably in part to give its most purist fans something to get hot and bothered about while they wait for the long-wheelbase Panamera, Porsche will put its new Panamera S hybrid on sale in June.

Joking aside, the 374bhp hybrid Panamera will sport the lowest CO2 output of any sporty large saloon (just 159g/km, for carbon footprint fact fans), besting the diesel offerings from the likes of the Jaguar XJ and BMW 7-series ranges.

The running gear is shared with the Cayenne hybrid and combines a 44bhp electric motor with a 330bhp 3.0-litre supercharged V6 that you might recognise from such fast saloons as the Audi S4.

The hybrid can run electric-only up to 37mph, while flat-out performance is 0-62mph in 6.0secs and a top speed of 168mph.

At £86,146, the Panamera S hybrid pitches in between the Turbo and 4S models, but for your extras £3k over the 4S you do get air suspension and 19-inch wheels.

Crucially, of course, you also slip below the threshold of 160g/km that, for tax purposes, means businesses can write off more of the cost of the car. A Porsche as a fleet favourite? Who'd have thought it?

Horrible "green" car for the rich with no taste and questionable envoiromental issues - Hollywood stars drive Prius's (or should that be Priuses?) to save the planet cr*p

I'll take the electric motor out of a scalextric car nail it to my CLK55 and hey presto its a hybrid no congestion charging for me!

That is an impressive CO2 figure. Shame it's a fool's errand to try and reduce such a 'pollutant' but you have to hand it to Porsche, they've done well to get it that low.

I DO sense some 'tuned for the test' stuff though.. wink

As if being the ugliest saloon car in the world is not enough, they go an make it battery powered. Appeal to me it does not!!

Potential customers, I can only think of Steve Wonder, assuming he is an environmentalist in his spare time.

Unfortunately, the more I see this car (a friend of mine owns one) the more I like the look of it. Shameful I know, but I am starting to think it is rather good looking. I should add, that this is a very, very capable car. Surprisingly so.

if it's free VEL for most, then fuel costs will have to rise to compensate.

I like the Panny Porsche. Far better than the Rapide. Got me interested now, as fuel is taking up a significant chunk of my monthly outgoings........

Love the Panamera (Girl friends father has a Turbo ) stupidly quick and poluting......... a hybrid may make sense in such times but it's not what that sort of car is about surely ? Next VW will bring out a Bentley Continental 'Blue motion' etc hehe

Edited for accuracy wink
