Porsche are sticklers for detail when it comes to fitting tyres. They can order the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S but are not allowed to fit them! All GT3/GT2’s have to be be fitted with a Cup 2 tyre.. even in the winter. V odd...
am trying to change tyres ahead of a trip to Scotland next week... weather looking v damp!

It’s all about the temps :-)
^This, totally.

Standing water aside, I find the Cup 2's are fine in the wet, [b]as long as[/i] the temperature says above about 7 degrees. Otherwise, all bets are off.
Drove mine at minus 3 for some distance. It was dry and the roads salted but no issues other than being mega careful and light with the throttle. Survived a hail storm too! Not an experience I would want too often though..
Does make me wonder... The only time I've driven them cold (through Peak District hills) was on tyres that were coming up to replacement - so worn and a bit on the old side too.

Wow. That's a pain as my Black Circles fitter won't go near Centre-Locks and I'm not sure I trust Kwik-Fit.

Are you sure about that? I've just got mine booked in for PS4s to be fitted next week.

Porsche Leicester put PS4S’s on my touring last year. All round tyre of choice. Don’t need more grip on the road and it’s still a good track tyre.

Yes, just off the phone from Porsche West London. The service guy said he can order the tyre but fitter said he is not allowed to fit the tyre.
I called again, this time went through to parts department. Parts guy asked the fitter... same answer. Not allowed to fit non Cup2s to GT3.
Iverson Tyres in Chiswick have sourced a set of tyres, fitting them on Wednesday.

Porsche Leicester may be more relaxed as run by Sytner. Porsche West London is part of Porsche GB.

How much is a lightly worn set of Cup 2s worth? Is there a market for these for people who swap and change for track days?

Porsche Swindon supplied and fitted a set to my car in March. No issue at all.

I bought a second hand set of genuine Porsche Turbo S rims with winter tyres (Alpins i think!) and stuck those on last November. Absolutely transformed the car during the winter months. Could drive through standing water etc and apply the power coming out of roundabouts as if it was a Summers day! No more twitching bum moments!

I wonder exactly the same, I have 4.5 mm all round on Cup 2’s. I have order PS4S on Blackcircles this morning with a one day 15% discount.

Hi, I'm getting increasingly frustrated by the lack of grip in the GT3, in the wet. It's almost undrivable for me, especially on track days if damp. What's a good alternative to the Cup 2 Tyres that are currently on it? Any ideas much appreciated.
What was the temperature on the rainy days when you were on track? Did you try to get proper heat into the tires - which can be an issue on cold rainy days as you need to actively work the car to do so

A lot is also geo based as a lot of track geo's reduces front toe, you get less scub so less heat.

You cannot get heat into a front tyre in the winter on the road. The rear in the GT3 have Massive heaters sitting next to them :-) but the front will be cold as ice esp after a 300 meter straight.

These side mufflers are handy in winter, but then over heat tyres in summer and on track. !!!

Last week at Goodwood it was about 10 degrees and raining. I couldn't get much heat into the tires, but to be honest I'm not competent enough to risk it (and you only get 4 proper laps at Goodwood). In December it was 3 degrees and wet at Silverstone (Open Pit Lane) and the car was being driven by a 'proper driver' and couldn't get any real heat into the tires without risking it (PS I could not easily replace this car even if I could afford to).

I would too on reflection.

Just came back from the Highlands in heavy rain on Cup2’s (albeit well worn) and poo came out. (As Jezza is wont to say) yikes
