Hoping that this type of car becomes more common.
If there is no intention to invest in the upkeep and maintenance of UK roads, then this type of performance model has huge appeal
spot on.If there is no intention to invest in the upkeep and maintenance of UK roads, then this type of performance model has huge appeal
I had a 992 gts and for me, it did not work on atrocious UK roads. Far too stiff. May have been a different proposition if living in mainland Europe.
I put name down on Dakar alas believe that i am not part of the happy few.
I genuinely believe that this kind of 'rally' inspired sportscars will be the next big thing in coming 10 years. Suspect if a commercial success they will expend it to a more available product.

I'm guessing your car had the Sport PASM which is fitted as standard to coupe GTS (but not Targa or convertible). This is also known as the -10mm option. What is not so well publicised is that the spring rates are substantially stiffer (I believe 100% stiffer) for the Sport PASM vs PASM (as fitted to a normal 'S' and which can be optioned for free on a GTS).
The problem is that Porsche salespeople don't seem to know this and probably don't advise customers accordingly.
If you want a GTS that rides better on UK roads simply order it without Sport PASM.

Absolutely. Figured out soon after buying. Oh well… not waiting another 2 years for one! What is not so well publicised is that the spring rates are substantially stiffer (I believe 100% stiffer) for the Sport PASM vs PASM (as fitted to a normal 'S' and which can be optioned for free on a GTS).

why is the Dakar not a Heritage badged car?
Because there’s no history of Porsche making a 911 road car on raised suspension ? The 959 did come with suspension that could be raised but not to a genuine off road extent. Think that is probably the only one. If Porsche follow this theme of having limited edition road cars based on their period race cars maybe we’ll get some proper wide body cars based on the 934/935 or a 992 Moby Dick !

I have no axe to grind.
just trying to get an idea of what Porsche are trying to achieve ( profits obviously), as Porsche are very slick with their products.
the whole recent 911 Dakar PR/press campaign had the original Dakar cars as the vision for the current Dakar.
my naive understanding of Heritage cars was that they are a pastiche of Porsches back catalogue.

Does anybody know when we are likely to see one in the UK?
I really need to see/touch/sit in one before I commit my spec for ordering…
Not much talk about this model on here though.
I am a bit perplexed there’s not many colours or options to choose from.
I must admit I’m finding it a little bit difficult to get excited about…. Are others the same?
