Good luck finding a 22,000 mile 997.2 (which the GTS is) GT3 for high 70's
I want to drive the thing, not wnk over it in the garage..but point taken. I can see why you make the comparison, but for clarity I was referring to any 997 GT3. There are a few in the 40s advertised at mid to high 70s. I'd just prefer a GTS as a daily. The GT3 is too special. Mileage is a big factor for the collectors. We will see in the next year where these values end up for GTSs. This thread will still be up...see you in 2025

From my amateurish observations, 997 GTSs seem to be moving, or at least disappearing off the classifieds, when they are advertised in the upper 50s to mid 60s, depending on condition. The ones that stay around are either priced higher or in less desirable colours (white..) or specs or all 3. Hexagon have a low miles black cabrio that has been sitting at 70k since the summer, it has no alcantara.

I wouldn't mind a less desirable colour as long as the rest of the spec were right, but a) my wife would object and b) resale would be tough, either waiting for the person who likes the colour or taking a price hit. One of my Ferraris was silver over black, which I liked, but proved super tough to sell while red ones were selling quickly.

Cabrios can hang around. Well cared for, alcantara/leather spec’d manual cars command premiums. There’s less than 100 in the country (coupes) so it makes sense. Note paragon asking 85k for the blue manual 15k miles manual in blue (not a resale colour!)

Good point. I was wondering if I sacrifice the buckets and just fit a 2nd hand set but even then I haven't seen just a solid black 997 GTS, non-basalt, one come on the market in years.
Mine isn't currently for sale, doesn’t have buckets, or extended leather, but is manual, flat black, and has centre locks! I was in market for a good couple of years prior to purchasing and haven’t seen another non metallic black manual coupe GTS in the Uk…yet!

Nice manual one listed.

but its Basalt.
Seems about £20k overpriced! There was I believe a lower miles car for about £10k cheaper
90k will get you into a very nice 997 gt3, 90k for a 997 gts is madness!

Is SSK a must for a road car?
I suppose nothing is a must, and it is very much a personal preference. Personally contact points are really important for me and the gear change is a big part of that. I drove a car without the SSK after I bought mine and I just felt it just added to the driving experience a fair amount.

Engine and chassis are the biggest differences in the 997 GTS over a Carrera, it is a car which is greater than the sum of its parts. A SSK is another of those parts which makes it that little bit more special than the standard car.

I know which I’d rather drive all year round, and which would make a nicer road car 90-95% of the time ...

All compromises should be embraced for the pleasure of a GT3 hehe

In my case they were for over 15 years biggrin
But in all seriousness, the GTS is a heck of a compelling package, as that X51 engine can be improved aurally, and its power output increased easily, without effecting its day to day usability and refinement, whilst the addition of some good quality coilovers spring and calved solely for road use, would be the icing on the cake chassis wise.

I’m not a fan of the “lightweight” carbon folding bucket seats personally (look great, but don’t suit my frame) but there are other lighter, far more comfortable options out there.

For someone who has no interest in tracking their car (that’d be me then) a mildly tweaked high miles GTS C2 manual GTS would give you 99% of the GT3’s road abilities without the compromises smile

And yes, I am mellowing in my old age ... !! hehe

Probably a good colour to buy, if you've an eye on future values. Still punchy at £85 though.

That’s absolute 911 perfection to my eyes. As others have also said, far more preferable to a GT3 in the sense of what I want in a road car. Sadly I can’t stretch to that kind of money for one.

You don't need to, unless you want a garage queen.

I sold my GTS 2.5 years ago for £52k, it has since changed hands again at under £50k and that was before the current economic st show. It was a REALLY good car. Leggy, and a few very minor blemishes, but I had maintained it regardless of cost and it drove like a new one.

The 997 GTS was probably the best car I have ever owned. Not the most expensive, fastest, best handling or best in any one particular regard, but at the business of doing what it was designed to do it was unparalleled.

Currently at £9k, but would've look good on my old manual GTS (sold last summer - with SSK)...

GT silver, extended alcantara & PDK. Strange price differential to the one above though?

Price differential because of the gearbox, and possibly the colour.
Plenty of silver 997's around, blue a good bit rarer. Likewise plenty of PDK around but manual rarer.

Completely agree. I rather like the look of this and keep the £50k.
