But that's the problem.

Lots of cars are up for sale at increasingly high prices - but what's selling, and at what actual figures?

Yes, of course some will sell, there will still be some anxious or naive buyers, late to the party, and they are lawful prey.

My take is that this market is delicate and nervous at the moment and many are waiting to see what happens as the Summer nears.

I dont envisage a crash but a softening of prices is certainly possible. There are too many players trying to push this market skywards and there are only so many punters who will pay huge premiums for these cars.

I say 'hold'.

I am sure the market has quite end somewhat. Hardly a RS but my brother has a lovely lowiish mileage manual 997.2 up for sale on here and Autotrader, not a single enquiry so far - not even a tyre kicker.

You have missed the boat if you are a seller unless you ask a very realistic price. Too many speculators raising prices only for the car not to sell and then taking off market and putting it back on at an even higher price! Trying to create an illusion of a rising market when number of deals are paper thin. Many get caught in the hype. Markets fall as well as rise and looks like with the exception of absolute pristine rare cars the classic car market is going through a much needed correction. For some cars caught up in the hype that were never that rare of even desirable there will probably be a big shock as there was in the 1980's when there was ridiculous hype around many very average models including some from Porsche. Many dealers went bust then

Market currently identical to property......understandably nervous for which possibilities of Brexit partly responsible.

May be plenty of dealer chancers around funded by the relatively easy money made from latter day rising car prices both old and new.......but only the professional set ups who know what they are doing will survive......again, identical to property.

I've been anticipating a fall in this market for a long time ... but not a freewill for the reasons mentioned.

Losing 20% on a new car is fact of normal life.

This doesn't represent free-fall, it represents normal depreciation.

If a classic car maxes at 100% and was therefore to fall back to 75% ... it would be no more than many new cars in the first year.

Will good 996 GT3's really go from £64k to £49k ??

Will people really rather have a new Cayman with no extras ?

I don't keep tabs on the Ferrari market, but I wonder if 430 Scud, 360 CS prices are stalling and about to soften ?
Quite the opposite...

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/f...

Not the only example ...
He is right. Scuderia currently falling, as is the 3.8 RS.

Deal with it .... stuff goes up but then always comes down.

When I buy a car I consider all that money money spent.

If I get some back at the end then that's just a bonus but not one I really plan for.

If you don't think the same way then IMHO you can't truly afford to own a nice car. Simple.

One if the main reasons is simple---------most of the Big names that are well known to Porsche Purchasers---all are SOR offerings

I'll bet you a pound to a penny that the vast majority of cars you see advertised at stupid prices from glitzy showrooms are on Sale or Return

And when something silly happens at auction time, people start believing the hype...

Sorry but , just for the sake of accuracy ; 997.2 3.8 RS isn't falling - only a week or so one went for £K225 and two others went for over £k 185 very recently : last year they were £k 160 ish - not that I care either way .

At £225k pretty much the cross over point with the 991RS.

Unlikely as supported by firming up of GTS and to a lesser extent even S prices by those chasing last of the nasps.

Not sure the RPM £225k was totally reflective of the market...it was a PTS car which I'd guess was at least £25k of that price and we don't know what it sold for? There's an RS at an OPC for £185k with the same mileage as the RPM car. PTS has to be the cheapest option ever on these cars!

Don't question that they are definitely very well bid as are the regular 997.2 GT3

The gap between the 997.2 GT3 and the RS is really difficult to justify apart from the RS moniker

Ditto for 997.1 and the 6 and all the way back.

Go into the garage and look at what you have, think about what you paid and if you are happy then dont worry biggrin

Go into the garage and look at what you have, think about what you paid and if you are crapping yourself and the thought of them being worth less in 6 months then quietly start selling them thumbup

Most of the cream doesn't hit the markets until it's sold.
Its advertised for a day, labelled 'reserved' and then as 'sold' a day or so later, all with the new owners consent ofcourse.
