997 PCM Module & I-phone Connection
Discussion
I know this is probably a well discussed topic, but I have recently bought a 997 3.8S Carrera with the PCM Module for navigation, radio etc. The car has a cd changer which I am reluctant to lose, but does not have the phone package.
I am looking for advice and other pistonheaders experience concerning ways to connect and link the PCM system to my I-phone for music and calls. Whilst Bluetooth connection would be nice I am not sure about just how much extra it would cost to have this facility. I believe there are also ways to connect using a hard wired system.
Any advice and experience from people that have had any after market systems installed, or advice as to reliable businesses who may be able to supply and fit would be gratefully received.
Thanks,
Paul.

When I was faced with the same dilemma I have been down both routes. The aftermarket head unit is in my opinion a way better solution if you are not too hung up about originality. With careful consideration it is possible to have a seamless fit with a massive step up in SatNav functionality. Also the latest generation includes Appleplay, or Carplay giving you access to streaming music as well.
Dunno if it'll help, but I've written up my PCM3.0 Bluetooth phone solution here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

On the advice of a friend, I have just ordered a Dynavin N6 like the one below.
http://www.dynavin.com/products/n6_ps_s.php
The silver surround is exactly like the silver trim in my 997 Turbo so it is supposed to look OEM, which is very important to me.
It has iPhone/ipod connectivity, navigation, an internal hard drive, TV tuner, dvd player, wifi, and I've also ordered a mirrorlink interface which I believe can mirror your iPhone on the screen.
Because my car has BOSE there is also a MOST adaptor which I had to order that allows it to connect seamlessly with the fibre optic stuff in the car (but I don't know if you would need this).
It handles music streaming etc as well so if you want to stream spotify to the car then it does this too.
I should be installing it this weekend and will report back on how it goes.

Based on this overview, I'd say it looks better than PCM3

HiI read your item on using a bluetooth Adapter. I tried the same one but when plugged into the iPod cable the PCM no longer gives an iPod option in source. Am I correct in that it should work on the iPod option?

No, apologies, I should have been more clear. It connects through the AUX input. If AUX doesn't appear on the list of input choices when you press the CD button, then you need to stick in a CD (any music CD will do) and press the OPTION button to show the list of selectable inputs. Put a tick in the box next to AUX and off you go. I read your item on using a bluetooth Adapter. Similar to the process described at the bottom of this page

Edit: Another little quirk I have discovered, is in the OPTION page, once the input is selected, the default volume of that input can be adjusted using the volume knob. Unfortunately there is no little slider etc. showing you the volume is being adjusted...it just is. Easier to tell what's happening if that input is playing at the time. Nice to know it's there if the AUX input is naturally quieter than say the radio.
