Mezger RMS weeping oil?
Discussion
I am making this assessment based on reading rather than any technical knowledge or mechanical understanding. Hopefully someone of great knowledge or experience can offer some advice.
I have recently noticed that ‘dreaded spot of oil on the garage floor’ which has wept (it’s certainky not dripping) from my 996.2 GT3.
I understand that infrequent use can exacerbate RMS failure due to the vacuum behind the seal, so I am wondering whether this is the likely culprit?
The front (gearbox end) of the engine is bone dry, but there are traces of oil evident towards the rear of engine (exhaust end).
Perhaps the pictures will help and someone can chime in?
Thanks,
Matt

Now that you mention the obvious, it does make sense that the RMS would appear to be in good order.. Oh dear, a north-south fail on my part!
Not that I am looking to apportion blame (ok I am) but I was visiting my local OPC this week for a new key, and during the key coding process the technician flagged the oil weep and suspected that the RMS could be the cause.
Perhaps the OPC techcinican also forget where the gearbox is located!
Thanks Slippydiff, I best carry out some more reading :-)

Thanks Digga, this is also useful reading.
I'll need to get under the car with appropriate cleaners/degreasers to better establish the source. I also need to replace a dodgy o2 sensor which fires a sporadic CEL... So whilst I am there and all that.
Anwyay, thanks again for your advice guys - always apprenticed.
p.s. I do lurk on the other forum but under the alias of Matt_SM. It's a great forum too but much less convoluted to add photos on PH!
Best regards,
Matt
