How hard is it to find a decent Cayman R??

Been to see that one..........fairly significant damage/chip to the rear quarter.......first and only service was done 18 months late......and I'm fairly sure it was a PEC demonstrator for 18 months before the last owner bought it.....a4ash said:
There's always 8-10 available on here, I've been looking at them for a while. They seemed to hit £40k and have stayed put for ages now. I've no idea whether they will go up in time or down but my dilemma is £40k also buys a 997.1 turbo which was a childhood bedroom wall poster dream. Decisions decisions........
I'm not interest in a 911 at all really.I've been watching the classifieds and most of the cars listed started at speculative figures of £42k-£45k and nearly all have retraced back to £40k or below.
The red car linked above was £43k a month or so ago.
The red car at Redline was £45k and is now £41k
There's a Peridot car that was £39.5k and is now £38.5k......
I'm prepared to pay good money for a good car, I just can't find one!!

Cant help with the search I'm afraid but I am curious as to why you want one.
What will you use the car for? Daily driving duties or weekend warrior?
I only ask because the Cayman R may not be the car for you (it wasn't for me) When I test drove one a while back I found it lacking in so many areas (especially power) so I bought a GT3 instead.
There are lots of Cayman R fanboys on here though, don't let them swing you into buying a car that is wrong for your planned usage.
It would be purely weekend driving! What will you use the car for? Daily driving duties or weekend warrior?

Nice toy for the weekend
They are great cars (if a little too easy to drive) I would highly recommend you take one out for a test drive on the roads you plan to use the car on. I think bucket seats are sought after but they don't suit all body types. Also, I would (personally) ignore all cars without air conditioning as the weight saving is negligible but the impact on driver and passenger comfort is huge.
Also, without air con you may have trouble selling the car in the future!

My only must have is PCM, everything else is up for debate to be honest! I'd prefer a white car, black spyders, aircon, buckets, SS, PSE but I'm flexible on all of the above.
There was a manual Peridot car at Glasgow OPC that was almost perfect, but no PCM. I know insisting on PCM probably isn't for the purists, but I want it!!

Have you seen this one? http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...
Also, have you contacted the independents like JZM, 911v and RSJ etc to ask them to source you one? Could be worth a try.
Yep, no PCM! Also, have you contacted the independents like JZM, 911v and RSJ etc to ask them to source you one? Could be worth a try.
You might be right about the independents........
Just spoke to RSJ who said they don't have anything currently, although they sold a yellow car in the summer....which seems to be this car;

A bit of googling, confirms that it's this car;
http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_418535-Porsche-Cayman...
Being drifted around a track by the TV programme Fifth Gear.........lol
It also seems to be this car;
http://motorcloud.net/2011-cayman-r-driving-event/
Which is at the PEC? Which leads me to the conclusion that it was one of the Demo cars at PEC and has probably had a hard life!!
Anyway, called the owner and it has no PCM or aircon..............the searcch continues!

They only took it in today, yet the ad says it's still in extended warranty until two months ago...
Strange one, that.
The owner of that car is a PH'er and it was offered to me for what he PX'd it for, unfortunately I was still trying to get my GTS order changed for December delivery (which suddenly became February once my spec was applied to the build slot!!) so my dithering mean't I missed out!!Strange one, that.
Trust me, if it's advertised anywhere, I've seen it!
I've got email alerts coming out of my ears!
Spoken to Kees @ Paragon and it doesn't have PSE, called Porsche Solihull and they quoted £2,288 to retro fit it....no Porsche warranty either making it a very expensive car if I wanted to get the PSE fitted and warranty added......
Was just thinking that there might be someone mulling over selling car and wanted to avoid a dealers low ball offer!
The right car is out there and ahppy to pay £40k+ for the right one, just impatient waiting for it!

Yup, I bought it. I was looking for a similar spec to you but even more picky on colour and I wanted climate control. I had decided I had to have PCM but when the Glasgow car came up it was a good spec otherwise and when I saw it, it was mint. Deal was done (after 10 days of haggling). Do I wish it had PCM.... yes and no. The Gen 1 Cayman interior without it looked terrible IMHO but the Gen 2 with the screen looks OK. The universal audio interface with USB would have been great, but I just bought a little bluetooth receiver and plugged it into the AUX port - streams music from my phone perfectly. Anyway, I digress. Good luck with your hunt. I'm sure you'll love it when you find one. I've not been able to drive mine in the dry yet even but I'm already loving it.
Congrats, looked a great car! I was on the phone to them within minutes of the advert going live and would have been on a same day plane if they'd said "yes it has PCM"!!I must have PCM.
I really want the PSE. But for the right deal i could live without it and add it later.
I'm not entirely fussed over other things like buckets, air con or other things.
Mileage/price isn't really an issue as long as the spec and price is in line.
Feel like I'm searching for Unicorn poo!!
New one up;

Not sure I could ever buy a silver car though and not seen one with those wheels before......
