Why was the yellow on a pec car ?

Was this the one at rpm a few months back.
I spoke to the owner, who knew nothing about the history. Further googling shows this car at RSJ, phoned them and they confirmed they sold it to the current owner and he had asked for the wheels to be changed from silver to fully black.

But is it a ex pec car ?
Click this link, scroll down to halfway and you'll find a pic of it on silver wheels at Silverstone;

http://motorcloud.net/2011-cayman-r-driving-event/

That, in addition to the pic of it being drifted by 5thGear around a track was enough to put me off, plus the low spec.

Low spec is a PLUS! Thats the whole idea, not load it up with toys! hehe

Mine have adaptive bi-xenon, no aircon, no navi, buckets spyder wheels sports chrono, manual and thats it!

but I know others want more of a cruiser with loads of toys smile
Of course, fully appreciate that that might be the perfect spec for some. When I spoke to the owner he said similar, which is fair enough, it just wasn't for me, although I nearly dropped some of my requirements for a yellow car! smile

Was looking for a CR or a Spyder. This one came up so I jumped at it. Very excited. But have to wait a couple of weeks for delivery. After ten years of NSX's (also brilliant cars), I'm looking forward to brakes that work!! If there are any CR owners in the SW area let me know.

Cheers.
Good work! smile

Lurking and pouncing is definitely the way forward. There are lots of overpriced cars at OPCs and every so often, for reasons that are unclear to me, a dealer will put a car on sale perhaps £5000 less than other cars of a similar spec. I missed one (a low spec 981 S manual with 12k miles) for less than £40k - before I got mine.
I can't comment on other models but with regards to R's it seems that the OPC's are happy to put up low spec cars for £42k-£45k and just sit and wait as they don't need to shift the car in any hurry. Then you have specialist's and Indy's who seem to want to ride the apparent bubble and price their cars similarly but then slash the prices within weeks of being listed as they need to shift cars.

Then, you have other dealers who perhaps know less about what car they have and just see it as a commodity and take it as a PX perhaps, add a few grand and just want to punt it on. You also have private sales from people who have maybe been offered low PX values. These two are where the potential gems are to be bought in my opinion and where I got mine. I wanted to buy an OPC car ideally but just couldn't see the values they were putting on cars, for example the white one with no decals at Sheffield for £42,900 with 22k and the white one with silver wheels with 31k at £41k. Both low spec cars in my opinion and overpriced. God knows what they would actually list a fully loaded low mile car for!

When I was looking for my Cayman R I ended up tracking spec and prices for a few months beforehand - some PDK's do last a little longer (Although the one I ended up buying had a lot of interest and was gone in a couple of days).

But, the main impact on time for sale was spec when I tracked it - Buckets and especially Air-Con - cars without those two lasted a lot longer than those with.

I think colour also has an impact - there's an awful lot of white ones about - about fifty percent of the 30 odd cars that came up for sale whilst I was looking were white.
The aircon thing was reinforced by speaking to JZM who categorically said they'd never take another R that didn't have AC........glad I spoke to them as I'd not really give it much consideration!

why is that?

I had someone tell me the same thing on a lotus exige v6 cup.

You would think it makes no difference on such a track focused car....

granted the CR isn't as track focused and is a more rounded toy, but given the UK climate, no AC is perfectly acceptable for me.
I wasn't bothered about it at all really either but JZM said that they had had two R's previously without it and really struggled to move them on as everyone asked straight away if it had AC or not, apparently. If they were selling a car at the time with AC I might understand that they might try to put me off other cars but they didn't so I saw no reason to assume that it wasn't straight up advice, from a source that knows infinitely more than me about selling Porsche's.....

First new car to market I've seen in about 2 months;

Peridot
Just under 20k
Manual
PSE
Buckets
AC
No Chrono?

Not sure about the full black wheels? Sure that could be sorted though.
Are the green headrest standard?

Very similar to the spec of mine. My one has sport chrono, cornering headlights and onlt 11.5k miles but otherwise pretty much the same. My car doesn't have the green bit in the seats, it's black plastic.
Yeah I thought it was your car at first till I saw the mileage and lack of Chrono smile

And with my street currently akin to an ice-rink the miles won't be going up on mine much any time soon! Since I got it in November I've only managed to have 1 drive in it where the roads were dry, all the other times it's been wet/cold/greasy/damp - can't wait for some warm, dry spring tarmac to have a proper play! How are you enjoying yours Sarnie?
Absolutely love it!! I thought I'd be using it as a stop gap till the end of this Summer, but can't see me selling it until I'm in a position to jump to something Italian! smile

it's been talked about to death, but 50k new cars people don't want to stick a tom tom on the window.
I don't use nav in any car, I hate it. I tend to have a map and know my route.

no one needs anything for a fun car, but it has the fun bits missing and the luxury bits missing and is £43k

while that's great news or me, I don't think that is a good price imo. I would want a PSE, SS and sports crono fitting so that's £4k and then it still has no PCM ,leather or Bose.

it's a top price Cayman R, at the minute people seem to have a issue paying more than £42k and higher price cars stick around.

so while I would like to say mine must be worth £45k , no one will pay £45k for it and people will bid me sub 40k for it I am sure.
As I mentioned to you previously, to pay top money (Eg £42k+) then I would have wanted a car from an OPC or at least with a Porsche warranty. Or it would have to be super low mileage Eg sub 5k.........from memory your car is at 20k with non Porsche items meaning get a Porsche warranty is going to mean replacing the tyres and brake pads and disks AND then pay for the warranty.........so even though your car might have a lot of the desirable options, I think you might struggle to get anywhere near £45k..........not wanting to start a fight, just my opinion smile

I don't buy any of this "less is more" business.

My car is used maybe once a week or so, so not often. But when I do, I want it to be the best car it car be, whether that includes the Sat Nav to get me home when I get lost or the PSE to make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck or the climate control to keep the temperature how I like it without me pushing a slider up and down.

I don't see how less options would make me enjoy this car any more? If I wanted to drive a stripped out car I'd buy a Caterfield etc

Nice car Fish, had seen it on the classifieds and must say I did like the grey.

Talking of satnav updates, I wonder if I need one as I don't have full post code search and keep going 'off-road' at some new motorway junctions! Does the update have the 7 digit search does anybody know? Sarnie?
Thats the first post I've seen about it, although I'm pretty sure mine has the full 7 digit postal code option.

I assume there will be a version number specified somewhere?

Few more cars appearing now;

16k Peridot car;

Low mile 5.5k black manual car, probably would have been tempted by this car even though I didn't want Black;

Still not really anything thats making me regret buying mine at the moment......maybe there'll be more after the GT4 announcement in a few weeks?
